NORMAN – Oklahoma junior
Ryder Cowan has been selected to represent the United States at the 2026 Arnold Palmer Cup, as announced Tuesday on Golf Channel.
Cowan will be the sixth Sooner to compete in the event and the second in as many seasons after OU senior
Jase Summy represented the United States in 2025.
The 30th edition of the annual Ryder Cup-style event, which features the top men's and women's collegiate golfers from the United States against their international counterparts, will be held July 3-5 at Tralee Golf Links in West Barrow, Ireland.
Ranked No. 14 in the NCAA rankings and No. 22 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Cowan is building on a standout sophomore season in which he earned All-America honors. The junior has posted nine top-20 finishes, five top-10 finishes and two wins in 12 events this season. His scoring average vs. par of -1.25 is the fifth-lowest single-season mark in Oklahoma history.
Cowan has fired 15 of his 36 rounds in the 60s this season and owns 23 rounds of par-or-better after setting the program record with 30 last season.
A two-time All-American, Cowan earned GCAA All-America honors as a sophomore and was named to the GCAA Freshman All-America Team in 2024. In 37 career events, he owns 23 top-20 finishes, 14 top-10 finishes and a career scoring average of 70.74 (-0.44).
A three-time U.S. Amateur qualifier, Cowan arrived in Norman as the No. 7 recruit in the 2023 class and the top-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma. The Edmond, Okla., product was a two-time AJGA Rolex All-American and two-time Oklahoma state champion at Oklahoma Christian School.
The United States has claimed 15 victories in the 29-year history of the Arnold Palmer Cup, including two of the last three editions. Cowan joins a strong group of Sooners who have represented the United States at the event, including Brad Dalke, who helped the Americans to a win in 2018, Quade Cummins, Garett Reband and Jonathan Brightwell, who competed in 2020. Cummins also played in 2019, while Summy represented the United States in 2025 at Congaree Golf Club.
Oklahoma head coach
Ryan Hybl also has deep ties to the event, having played for Team USA in 2002, a winning year for the Americans, before later serving as head coach of the U.S. squad in 2018.
Cowan will not be the only Sooner represented at the 2026 Palmer Cup, as Oklahoma women's golf head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell will serve as an assistant coach for the International team.
One of the premier events in amateur golf, the Arnold Palmer Cup has produced more than 250 alumni who have gone on to earn cards on the PGA, DP World or LPGA Tours. Additionally, 46 former participants have competed in the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup or Solheim Cup, while more than 100 alumni have combined for over 450 professional victories across the PGA, DP World, LPGA and Ladies European Tours.
