Sooners Drop Tight Battle to LSU

February 15, 2025 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN – LSU scored the final eight points to notch an 82-79 men's basketball victory at Oklahoma on Saturday evening and hand the Sooners their fifth consecutive loss.

OU (16-9, 3-9 SEC) led for over 34 minutes but saw its five-point advantage erased in the final 20 moments as LSU guard Cam Carter converted a 4-point play with 20.9 seconds left and, following a steal, registered a traditional 3-point play with 8 seconds remaining to put the Tigers up 81-79. Vyctorius Miller added a free throw in the final second for the game's final point.

Oklahoma built a double-digit lead early, going up 20-10 midway through the first half. LSU (13-12, 2-10) responded, cutting the deficit to one, but the Sooners took a 35-29 halftime advantage. A 19-7 run spanning the final minutes of the first half and the opening five minutes of the second gave OU its largest lead of the night at 13, 46-33.

The Tigers battled back, tying the game at 59 with 7:45 remaining. After trailing by as many as four, OU regained the lead with 5:06 left. A pair of Jalon Moore free throws extended the Sooners' advantage to 79-74 with 35 seconds to play.

Jeremiah Fears led Oklahoma with 15 points and added five rebounds, hitting two of the team's three made 3-pointers. Moore added 14 points and seven rebounds, finishing a perfect 8 for 8 at the free throw line. Duke Miles, who made all eight of his free throw attempts, finished with 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals with no turnovers.

Carter powered LSU with 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting, while Daimion Collins contributed 22 points and four rebounds before fouling out.

The Sooners lost despite posting their largest rebounding margin of the season (43-28) and grabbing 14 offensive boards that led to 16 second-chance points. OU shot a season-low 16.7% from 3-point distance. It was 3 for 18 while LSU was 11 for 28 (39.3%).

OU looks to bounce back on Tuesday when it travels to face No. 3 Florida at the O'Connell Center in Gainesville, Fla. The game will start at 6 p.m. CT and be televised on ESPN2.
