NORMAN – Oklahoma's
Carter Schubert has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. It is the first career weekly honor for the redshirt sophomore from Marion, N.Y.
Schubert delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, rolling to the 174-pound title in a field packed with national contenders. The Cal Baptist transfer went 5-0 at the prestigious event, opening with three controlled wins before edging No. 24 Moses Espinoza-Owens of South Dakota State in a 2-1 semifinal. He capped his run with a 5-4 victory over No. 7 Danny Wask, a 2025 All-American and NCAA qualifier, to secure Oklahoma's first CKLV individual championship since 2013. Across the tournament, Schubert allowed just eight total points and punctuated his performance with his second top-10 victory of the season over a 2025 NCAA qualifier as he continues to build toward his first NCAA Championships appearance in March. His title run also powered the Sooners to 80.5 team points and a sixth-place finish – OU's highest CKLV placement since 2015.
This marks the 56th time an Oklahoma wrestler has earned a Big 12 weekly award. Schubert, who is majoring in sports management, is OU's second honoree of the season and its second in a three-week span after
DJ Parker earned the accolade on Nov. 26. The Sooners join Oklahoma State as the only Big 12 programs with at least two honorees this season.
Schubert and the Sooners will head east this weekend for back-to-back road duals against No. 12 Rutgers (Dec. 13) and Rider (Dec. 14). OU's matchup with Rutgers at Jersey Mike's Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and will air on the Big Ten Network.
