FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Aaliyah Chavez scored 29 points to lead No. 9 Oklahoma to a 109-91 victory over Florida State for the Great Egret Division Championship in the GEICO Coconut Hoops tournament Sunday night
It's the first in-season tournament title of the Jennie Baranczyk era.
Sahara Williams added 16 points, Zya Vann 15, Raegan Beers 14 and Payton Verhulst and Caya Smith 12 each for the Sooners (7-1), who surpassed their average of 88 points per game.
Florida State (4-5) stayed in the game by making a season-high 19 3-pointers. Oklahoma had 13.
The Seminoles, who already have played No. 1 Connecticut, Florida, Indiana and Illinois, showed no fear against the Sooners. They led 19-12 in the first quarter and 38-31 in the second. After drawing the wrath of their coach, the Sooners proceeded to go on a 12-0 run. They led 43-42 at halftime.
FSU stayed in the game by making nine 3-pointers and scoring 11 fast-break points in the first half.
Oklahoma used a 7-0 run to push its lead to 53-44. Florida State drew within three but could get no closer.
Jasmin Shavers scored 24 points and Sydney Bowles 18 for Florida State. Emma Risch added 16, Sole Williams 15 and Allie Kubek 11.
POSTGAME NOTES
• No. 9 Oklahoma was crowned champion of the GEICO Coconut Hoops Classic on Sunday night after defeating Florida State 109-91 at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Fla. The Sooners have now won six straight games and have tied a program record with three straight 100-point outings.
• OU's 109 points are its most against a Power Four opponent in a non-conference game in program history. Oklahoma also scored 100 against a Power Four team for the first time since posting 100 vs. Oregon in November 2012. The Sooners have now reached 100 points 14 times under head coach Jennie Baranczyk, the fourth most nationally since 2021.
• The victory marked the 300th career win for Baranczyk, who became the eighth active SEC coach to reach the milestone. She did so faster (431 games) than all but two of those coaches (Kim Mulkey and Kenny Brooks).
• True freshman Aaliyah Chavez was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament and joined Raegan Beers and Sahara Williams on the All-Tournament Team.
• Chavez scored 29 points, tying her career high, and hit seven 3-pointers. Her 29 points are the ninth most by an OU freshman in a single game and her seven threes match her performance vs. Kansas City earlier this season for the third most by a first-year Sooner. She also dished out a team-high six assists and is the first freshman since 2021 to record a game with at least 29 points, seven threes and six assists.
• Beers delivered 14 points and 11 rebounds, securing her fifth straight double-double. She joins Courtney Paris as the only Sooner with such a streak, as Paris holds the NCAA record with 112 consecutive. Beers' 51 career double-doubles are tied for the most among active Division I players.
• Sahara Williams, who scored 21 points in Friday's win, notched her third double-double of the season behind 16 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
• The Sooners return home for the entire month of December. OU plays five games in December, starting with a Dec. 3 matchup against No. 25 NC State at Lloyd Noble Center on ESPN2 at 6 p.m.
