WBB Game Preview: Sooners Host NC State Wednesday for ACC/SEC Challenege

December 02, 2025 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN — No. 9/9 Oklahoma (7-1) returns to Norman for a top-25 matchup as it hosts (RV/25) NC State (5-3) at the Lloyd Noble Center on Wednesday night as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge.

Tip is set for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN2 with Eric Frede and Christy Thomaskutty on the call. Fans can tune in on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (107.7 FM) with Brian Brinkley and Carolyn Baker, or listen in Spanish with Enrique Vasquez and Luis Rendon on Los Sooners Radio (1560 AM). Both radio broadcasts will also stream on the Varsity App.

Wednesday's game marks the start of Holiday and Hoops for women's basketball fans and the first 200 fans through the doors will take home exclusive OU basketball holiday pajama pants. Fans can also purchase tickets for a low as $5 through the Sooner Sports Holiday Sale

Oklahoma enters Wednesday on a historic six-game winning streak, with every victory coming by at least 15 points. The Sooners recently delivered three straight 50-point wins for the first time in program history and are currently in the midst of their second-ever stretch with three consecutive 100-point games (first since 1991-92). Over the run, OU is averaging 99.0 points per game with a +40.7 scoring margin, shooting 48.5% from the field with all five starters scoring in double figures. A win on Wednesday would push the streak to seven, tying the third-longest run of the Baranczyk era.

The Sooners will try to tame the Wolfpack, who won the ACC last season and went to the Final Four in 2024 under 800-game-winning head coach Wes Moore. The Pack entered the season inside the top 10, but have played the 18th toughest schedule in the nation and fallen to No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

NOTABLES

• OU held steady at No. 9 in Monday's AP Top 25 poll and checked in at No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, marking a run of five straight weeks in the AP Top 10 for the second year in a row. The Sooners have now appeared in the AP Top 25 for 34 consecutive weeks, the eighth-longest active streak nationally and the fourth-longest in program history, and their 26 straight weeks inside the AP top 20 is tied with North Carolina for the seventh-longest active run in the country.

• Oklahoma has the nation's highest-scoring starting five, as its five starters combine to score 71.1 points per game. The Sooners are one of eight teams in the country with five or more players averaging double figures, and the OU offense is once again among the nation's best, ranking sixth nationally in scoring offense (92.1 PPG), eighth in assists per game (20.8) and 18th in offensive rating (115.4).

• While the OU offense draws much of the attention, the Sooner defense has emerged as one of the nation's best. Oklahoma ranks seventh nationally in opponent field goal percentage (31.7%) and has yet to allow a team to shoot above 40% this season. The Sooners also sit inside the top 25 in several key defensive metrics, leading the country in both defensive rebounds per game (35.9) and opponent paint points per game (15.5), while ranking 14th in blocks per game (6.0) and 24th in defensive rating (79.8).

Raegan Beers has recorded five straight double-doubles and leads the country with six this season. Her fifth consecutive double-double, posted Nov. 30 vs. Florida State, made her just the second Sooner ever to reach five in a row, joining Courtney Paris, who logged an NCAA-record 112 consecutive double-doubles at OU. Across the five-game stretch, Beers averages 18.4 points on 62.3% shooting with 11.2 rebounds in just 20.3 minutes per game, and she has delivered three 20-point performances in that span.

• Named SEC Freshman of the Week for the second time this year on Tuesday, Aaliyah Chavez averages a team-high 18.0 points per game, the top scoring mark among all true freshmen, and is the only true freshman ranked inside the top 50 nationally in scoring. She ranks second in the SEC in made threes (25) and also leads the Sooners in assists (4.4 APG) while adding 3.4 rebounds per game. She is one of eight players nationally – and the only freshman – averaging at least 18.0 points, 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game.

SERIES HISTORY

• Oklahoma and NC State have never met. OU is 29-28 all-time against ACC teams and 5-3 versus the league under Baranczyk. The Sooners are 1-0 in the ACC/SEC Challenge, defeating No. 22 Louisville last season on the road, 78-72. In conference challenge games under Baranczyk, OU is 2-0, defeating Mississippi State in the Big 12/SEC Challenge in 2021.
