NORMAN — Five first-half goals set the tone for a dominant effort from the University of Oklahoma soccer team as OU shut out Stetson 7-0 at John Crain Field on Thursday evening.
Oklahoma (4-1) held a 30-6 advantage in shots over Stetson (3-2), scoring a season-high seven times as six different Sooners struck for a goal.
Alexis Washington recorded her first collegiate brace with two goals, both in the first half.
Ella Pappas,
Sophia Green,
Michelle Pak,
Ella Lewis and
Morganne Eikelbarner each added goals of their own while
Hadley Murrell,
Koby Commandant and
Cassie Clifton all tallied an assist.
The Sooner attack generated 11 shots on target and finished 63.6% of those on-frame chances for goals. OU gained 15 set pieces via seven corners and eight Stetson fouls.
Abigail McNulty led all players with five shots while Green and
Juliette Rayo added four a piece.
OU goalkeeper
Caroline Duffy earned her fourth win of the season with nearly 71 clean minutes, stopping each of the four shots the Hatters placed on her. Fellow keeper
Sierra Giorgio finished off the shutout over the final 19 minutes and recorded one save.
Green opened the scoring in the fourth minute, taking an excellent pass into the box from Clifton and sending it past the keeper to the lower left corner. Washington struck for her first marker 15 minutes later, gathering a Green free kick off the top of the frame and redirecting it home for the 2-0 lead. She extended the Oklahoma advantage to 3-0 just ahead of the 27th minute, receiving a picturesque through ball from Murrell and finishing a sharp-angle shot from just to the right of the goal area.
Oklahoma pushed its lead to 4-0 in the 30th minute as Eikelbarner made a terrific move to escape pressure and launched in powerful left-footed kick from above the goal area. The Sooners made it a five-goal first half with three minutes to go in the frame as Pak stepped between a pair of defenders and fired home a marker from just inside the box.
Pappas provided OU's sixth goal in the 49th minute with an incredible shot two feet above the box, racing to her right and threading her right-footed kick to the upper right corner of the net. Lewis capped off the scoring with her first collegiate goal at the 70th minute, receiving an excellent header pass from Commandant and sending a left-footed shot over the outstretched arm of the Stetson keeper.
Oklahoma's five first-half goals were its most since the attack scored seven in the opening half vs. UTSA on Sept. 6, 2015. Its 30 shots marked the most OU has produced since registering 46 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Aug. 24, 2023.
