September 29, 2024 | Soccer
NORMAN — Junior forward Alexis Washington recorded her 18th career assist to tie the University of Oklahoma soccer team's program record as the Sooners played to a 2-2 draw with Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at John Crain Field.
Oklahoma (8-3-1, 1-2-1 SEC) and Kentucky (8-1-3, 0-1-3 SEC) each earned one point in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) standings with the tie. The Sooners out-shot Kentucky by a 10-4 margin and limited the Wildcats to a lone shot in the final 45 minutes.
OU struck first in the fourth minute thanks to a brilliant effort play by Washington as she won a 1-vs-1 battle with her defender on the near wing and laced a perfect pass to Sophia Green in front of the goal area. Green turned and fired home her fifth goal of the season, giving Oklahoma a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats responded with a goal of their own at the 21st minute. Leonie Weber provided OU with a go-ahead goal three minutes later, scoring on a direct free kick for her fifth of the season. UK tied things back up at 2-2 with a goal three minutes later.
Oklahoma's defense dominated the rest of the way, holding Kentucky to a lone shot across the next 64 minutes. Caroline Duffy made two saves on the afternoon.
Green provided a match-high three shots alongside her goal while Hadley Murrell added two shots.
Washington's 18th career assist ties her with Lauren MacIver for the program's all-time record.
