NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma soccer team dropped a 2-0 result to No. 24 Mississippi State on Thursday evening in Norman, snapping its five-match winning streak.
Oklahoma drew a crowd of 2,618, second-largest in program history, and welcomed a record 781 students to John Crain Field for its inaugural Southeastern Conference (SEC) match.
The Sooners (7-2-0, 0-1-0 SEC) were outshot 19-10 on the evening by the Bulldogs (7-1-0, 1-0-0 SEC) including an 11-4 margin in the first half.
Hadley Murrell led OU with four shots, placing one on frame, while
Sophia Green and
Abigail McNulty added two each.
Caroline Duffy made a career-high 11 saves in the match, becoming the first Sooner keeper to register double-digit stops since Makinzie Short tallied 10 at Nebraska on Aug. 21, 2022.
Mississippi State scored its first goal just inside the 24th minute and tacked on a second in the 53rd.
Oklahoma's 7-1-0 start to the season will stand as its second-best start in program history, trailing only its 11-1-0 opening to the 2005 campaign.
