TULSA, Okla. – The Oklahoma volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep over Stephen F. Austin Thursday evening inside the Reynolds Center in Tulsa, Okla. OU took down the Ladyjacks 25-16, 26-24, 25-18 to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Junior Alexis Shelton led all players with 12 kills on the night. Shelton, who has recorded double-digit kills in 10 consecutive matches, has now reached 10-plus kills in 26 of her last 30 matches. Graduate transfer Kari Geissberger added 11 kills on a .467 clip and senior Daleigh Ellison chipped in seven.
Setter Leah Laboy recorded her second double-double of the season with 31 assists and 14 digs. Libero Callie Kemohah notched 11 digs to go with five assists and freshman Whitney Wallace added nine digs.
The Sooners recorded 7.0 blocks as a team with graduate Lydia Martyn leading the way with four. Ellison and Shelton each tallied three blocks on the night.
After a slow start, the Sooners ran away with the first set 25-16. OU held the lead for much of the opening frame, but SFA kept it close, pulling within two at 18-16. The Sooners used a 7-0 run to end the first set with Geissberger fifth kill locking up the advantage.
The second set saw nine ties and five lead changes before OU came out on top, 26-24. With a 20-18 lead, Wallace served up an ace to force a timeout from the Ladyjacks. OU took a four-point lead, before a 3-0 run from SFA made it a one-point game. SFA fought off two set points but a kill and ace from Shelton secured the 2-0 lead for the Sooners.
OU jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the third before SFA pulled within one at 10-9. The Ladyjacks tied things up at 11-all before the Sooners responded to lead 15-13 at the first media timeout. OU extended the lead to 20-15 and used a 5-3 run to clinch the match.
The Sooners will return to the Reynolds Center for a Friday night matchup with Tulsa. The match is set for a 6:30 p.m. start on ESPN+.
