NORMAN — The No. 9 Oklahoma men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 5-1 victory over Oklahoma State to finish 6-1 in conference play
The Sooners fell behind to start the match after dropping the doubles point to the Cowboys. Freshman Kholo Montsi and sophomore Luis Alvarez dropped their set 3-6. With courts one and three each at 4-5 with a deuce point, a loss for the fifth-year senior pair and No. 52 Alex Martinez and Baptiste Anselmo to No. 19 pair Isaac Becroft and Tyler Zink ultimately gave OSUthe early lead.
OU got off to a strong start in singles, winning five of six first sets. Fifth-year senior Justin Schlageter was first off the court for the Sooners, winning his match 6-3, 6-1 to tie the match.
A 6-3, 6-3 win at the six line for fifth-year senior Mark Mandlik gave the Sooners the lead, followed by a 6-4, 6-1 win for Alvarez to extend the lead.
Junior Jordan Hasson came back from trailing 0-4 in the second set to clinch the match with a 6-4, 7-5 win at the three line over No. 83 Alex Garcia. To close out the match, No. 10 Martinez took a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 win over No. 20 Tyler Zink.
When play was stalled, No. 59 Montsi was tied at one set all and two games all in the third set against No. 86 Isaac Becroft.
The No. 9 Sooners head to Stillwater, Okla. to compete in the Big 12 tournament April 19-21.
