NORMAN – No. 25/21 Oklahoma men's basketball hosts No. 6/7 Kansas on Saturday, Feb. 17. Tip is at 3:05 p.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center. The Big 12 conference contest will air on the Sooner Sports Radio Network  (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing and be broadcast by ESPN with Rich Hollenberg (PxP) and Fran Fraschilla (analyst) on the call.

FOR THE FANS

•  University of Oklahoma students can attend all 2023-24 men's basketball games for free. Students need to show their ID at the lower north entrance at Lloyd Noble Center.  

•  The first 2,500 fans will receive a commemorative Billy Tubbs poster. Oklahoma will recognize the former head men's basketball coach during the game on Saturday.

OPENING TIP

•  Oklahoma is ranked 33rd (games through 2/15) overall and eighth in the Big 12 in the NET. Ten Big 12 teams are in the top 40. Kansas is 17th overall and fifth in the conference.

•   Junior Javian McCollum ranks seventh among active career leaders in free throw percentage (89.6%). In 76 career games, McCollum has made 207 free throws in 231 attempts. Senior Sam Godwin is ninth among NCAA DI active career leaders in field goal percentage, making 64.0% (251-392) of his shots.

•  Oklahoma is 16-2 this season when scoring 70 or more points and 16-0 when holding its opponents to 70 points or less.

•   Oklahoma has the fifth toughest remaining schedule based on future opponent winning percentage. The Sooners' six remaining opponents have a combined 98-42 record (70.0%). Six of the top 10 teams are from the Big 12.

LAST TIME OUT

•  Senior Rivaldo Soares scored a team-high 17 points and No. 25/21 Oklahoma dropped its lone regular-season meeting against No. 12/13 Baylor 79-62 at Foster Pavilion on Tuesday night. Soares finished 5-for-6 from the field, including two 3-pointers. The Boston, Mass., product added five rebounds and two assists.

•  After a back-and-forth first 10 minutes, sophomore Milos Uzan evened the score with a driving layup and deep 3-pointer, knotting the score at 20-all with 6:48 remaining. Baylor drained three consecutive triples over the next two minutes and controlled the remainder of the half, entering the break up 40-27. Despite runs by the Sooners in the second half, Baylor fended off OU's attempts at a comeback.

•  Junior Javian McCollum, junior Jalon Moore, sophomore Otega Oweh and Uzan each scored nine points. McCollum and Uzan dished out a team-high four assists and Soares led OU on the boards.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME

Oklahoma holds a 77-27 record at Lloyd Noble Center since 2017. The Sooners have won 82.9% (610-127) of their games at LNC since the building opened in 1975. OU's winning percentage at Lloyd Noble Center is second in the Big 12 only to Kansas' 87.9% at Allen Fieldhouse (853-117).

RANKING SUMMARY (2/16)

•  Oklahoma ranks in the top 60 nationally in seven categories. The Sooners are 13th in three-point percentage defense (28.9%),  28th in field goal percentage defense (40.4%), 41st in scoring margin (10.1 PPG), 46th in scoring defense (66.6 PPG), 49th in rebound margin (5.0 RPG), 54th in field goal percentage (47.3%) and 56th in free throws made per game (15.8).

•  Javian McCollum is fifth in NCAA DI and first in the Big 12 in free throw percentage (93.3%). Sam Godwin is 45th nationally and first in the conference in offensive rebounds per game (3.0 RPG). Milos Uzan is 70th in assists (114), 84th in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.4) and 85th in assists per game (4.6 APG). Otega Oweh is 100th in NCAA DI in steals (42).

BILLY BALL

•  Oklahoma will recognize former head men's basketball coach Billy Tubbs on Saturday, Feb. 17 when its hosts Kansas. Tubbs led the Sooners for 14 seasons (1980-94) and compiled a 333-132 record (.716), finishing with the most wins in program history. He ended his career with a 609-317 (.658) record as a Division I head coach.

•  Under the guidance of Tubbs, the Sooners reached nine NCAA Tournaments, including four Sweet 16s, two Elite Eights and the 1988 national championship game. Tubbs won four regular season Big 8 titles and three Big 8 Tournament titles. He was a four-time Big 8 Coach of the Year (1984, '85, '88, '89) and two-time Basketball Weekly National Coach of the Year (1983, '85).

•  Oklahoma ranked in the top three nationally for points per game for seven consecutive seasons (1984-90). The Sooners averaged over 100 points a game in 1987-88 (102.9), 1988-89 (102.2) and 1989-90 (101.3). OU's 4,012 total points in the 1987-88 season remain the most for a single season by any team in NCAA history.

AP POLL APPEARANCES

Oklahoma has appeared in the AP Poll 386 times (30.3%), ranking 22nd all-time. Since the 1984 season, the Sooners have appeared in 48.6% (366 times) of AP Polls with an average rank of 12.2. OU was ranked in the AP top 15 for seven consecutive weeks before the Jan. 29 poll, marking the first time since 2015-16. The 2015-16 Sooners were ranked in the AP top 10 all season.
