Antonio Lorenzo has earned Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
It is the first Big 12 weekly accolade for the senior from Antelope, Calif., who set the tone early for Oklahoma in their home opener on Saturday with a 3-2 upset of Wyoming's No. 2 Jore Volk. Trailing 1-0 late in the third period, Lorenzo landed a takedown with 58 seconds left to knock off the 2024 All-American.The two-time national qualifier improved his dual record to 2-0 (3-2 overall) on the season.
This marks the 53rd time that an Oklahoma wrestler has won a weekly Big 12 honor. Lorenzo, who is pursuing a Masters of Business Administration, becomes the first Sooner to win the award since Tony Madrigal took home the accolade on Nov. 9, 2021.
Lorenzo and the Sooners return to the mat on Friday, Dec. 6 when they host Central Michigan at McCasland Field House.
