Sooners Fall to Red Raiders

NORMAN – No. 11/13 Oklahoma men's basketball fell to No. 20/21 Texas Tech 85-84 on Saturday afternoon at Lloyd Noble Center.
Senior Rivaldo Soares recorded his first double-double as a Sooner, finishing with a team-high 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting, 10 rebounds and four assists. The Boston, Mass., product scored eight points in the final two minutes, including a 3-pointer to put OU up 76-75 with 1:56 left.
Down 75-73 after a six-point run by Texas Tech, Soares buried the second of his three triples. The Red Raiders responded with a 3-point of their own, giving Texas Tech a two-point edge with 1:27 remaining
Sophomore Otega Oweh crashed down the lane and ended up at the free throw line, making the first of his two attempts.
Texas Tech's Pop Isaacs buried his two free throws to give the Red Raiders an 80-77 lead with 49 seconds. Oweh wrangled the offensive rebound and pulled the Sooners within one with the putback.
Down 80-79, the Sooners fouled TTU's Joe Toussaint, who buried his two attempts at the line. Soares matched Touassint at the charity stripe and again brought Oklahoma back within one with 19 seconds left.
Toussaint was fouled on the following possession, making the first of his two free throw attempts. The Sooners' final attempt to regain the lead rattled off the rim. Isaacs extended the Texas Tech advantage before Soares buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Oklahoma entered halftime up 34-33. Despite being down 17-9, the Sooners rallied in the opening frame and held a 30-21 advantage with 3:23.
The two programs traded baskets to open the second half before Oklahoma strung together a 9-2 spurt and held a 62-55 edge. Senior Sam Godwin opened the run with a pair of made free throws and sophomore Milos Uzan capped the scoring streak with a layup.
Godwin finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Oweh added 14 points, six rebounds and a team-best three steals. Uzan dished out a team-high five assists and scored 13 points.
