NORMAN – The Oklahoma volleyball team fell to No. 9 Texas in three sets, 25-22, 25-13, 25-12, Saturday evening inside McCasland Field House.
With 2,228 fans in attendance, the Sooners recorded the fifth-highest attendance mark in program history.
Taylor Preston led the way with nine kills on the night. Alexis Shelton and Lydia Burts each chipped in seven while Hannah Pfiffner added six. Shelton also added five digs and two blocks to her stat sheet.
Payton Chamberlain dished out 28 assists and seven digs, while Callie Kemohah notched eight digs.
The teams traded points early in the opening frame before the Sooners pulled in front, 7-5. The Longhorns used a 6-0 scoring run to take a four-point, but the Sooners responded with a run of their own to take the lead at 17-16. The teams continued to trade points late with Texas pulling away for the 25-22 win.
Texas used a 10-0 scoring run to take a 16-6 lead in the second set before closing it out, 25-13.
In the third, Texas jumped out to a 15-7 lead at the first media timeout. The Sooners struggled to find rhythm offensively and dropped the final set, 25-13.
Up next for the Sooners is a road trip to Orlando, Fla., for the first non-conference road games of the year. OU will face UCF on Sept. 28 and 29.
