Volleyball Falters Against Knights

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Oklahoma volleyball team fell to UCF 25-13, 25-18, 25-22, Thursday night in the first road conference game of the season.

The loss moved the Sooners to 6-6 on the year and 0-3 in conference play, while UCF improved to 12-2, 3-0.

Alexis Shelton led the offense with eight kills on the night to go with three digs and two blocks. Lydia Burts added six kills and four solo blocks. Taylor Preston chipped in five kills and Daleigh Ellison tallied three.

Payton Chamberlain recorded 16 assists with Emma Henry and Rylee Fay each adding four. Callie Kemohah tallied seven digs and two service aces.

The teams traded points early before a 3-0 run saw UCF with a 12-8 lead. The Knights pushed their lead to 18-10 and a kill from Burts stopped the scoring run. The Sooners were unable to overcome the deficit, dropping the set 25-13.

UCF jumped out to an early 7-2 lead to force an OU timeout. The Knights pulled ahead 15-10, but back-to-back service aces from Mele Corral-Blagojevich and a 3-0 scoring run pulled OU within one at 16-15. The Sooners stayed close with the Knights but dropped the second set 25-18.

After UCF took a 5-1 lead, the Sooners tallied to pull within one at 8-7. Back-to-back kills from Burts and an ace from Chamberlain gave OU the 10-9 lead. UCF used a 5-0 run to take a 15-10 lead before a block from Burts stopped the run. OU closed the gap at 20-19 off an ace from Kemohah. The Sooners fought off two match points but dropped the final set 25-22.

The Sooners and Knights will take the court again on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. The match will be available to stream on ESPN+.
