LAST TIME OUT
The Sooners welcomed a hot UCLA team to McCasland Field House last weekend, splitting the two-game series with the Bruins. In game one, the Sooner snapped UCLA's seven-match winning streak in an epic five-set battle. The Sooners topped UCLA 25-23, 25-21, 15-25, 24-26, 15-7. The win was the first at home for head coach Aaron Mansfield. Taylor Preston led all players with 16 kills on the night. Alexis Shelton added 15 and Lydia Burts chipped in 12. Shelton nearly recorded a double-double, adding eight digs to her night. In game two, the Sooners fell in four sets. Kelsey Carrington powered the offense with a career-high 14 kills as she reached double-digit kills in a match for the first time as a Sooner. Carrington achieved her career feat while also hitting at a .565 clip.

ONE LAST TIME
The 2023 season marks the final year in the Big 12 for the Sooners. Since the formation of the Big 12 in 1996, OU has compiled a 287-368 record. The Sooners had two top-two finishes in conference play in 2006 and 2014, along with third place finishes in 2010, 2013, 2018 and 2019. The Sooners open their final season of conference play with Texas who will be joining OU in the SEC beginning with the 2024 season.

RECORD BREAKERS
Against Boise State on Sept. 2, the Sooners broke not one, but two team records. Against the Broncos, the Sooner tallied 73 kills, setting the record for most in a four set match. The previous record was 67 set at Arkansas-Little Rock in 2016. The second record was assists in a four-set match. OU tallied 64 assists to tie the record set in 2016, also against Arkansas-Little Rock.

WE DIG IT
Junior libero Callie Kemohah reached a major milestone in Friday's match against UCLA. Kemohah notched 1,000 dig and now sits at 1,015 digs in her career. Kemohah is just six digs away from cracking the top 15 all-time in program history.

PC2K
The countdown to 2,000 assists is on for junior setter Payton Chamberlain. Chamberlain has record 1,642 assists in her career with 1,161 of those coming while at OU. Chamberlain is averaging 10.46 assists per set and with 19 matches left should easily achieve the feat. She currently ranks 11th all-time in assists and will move into 10th when she hits 2,000.

QUICK HITTERS

  • The last time Oklahoma beat Texas was on Oct. 25, 2014, in a 3-0 sweep in Austin, Texas. Texas currently leads the all-time series 61-4 and enters Friday's match on a 15-game winning streak against the Sooners.
  • The Sooners still have one non-conference matchup left on the schedule. OU will take a break from conference play for a midweek match against Tulsa in late October.
  • Eight of OU's regular season opponents earned berths to the 2022 NCAA Tournament, including Texas, Ball State, Houston, UCF, Iowa State, BYU, TCU and Baylor. Texas was crowned the national champion, while Houston and Baylor made it to the regional semifinals

THE OPPOSITION

Texas is 5-3 on the season with two of their three losses coming to top-15 opponents. The Longhorns are coming off a 3-1 victory over No. 19 Ohio State and a four-set loss to No. 11 Washington State last weekend. Madisen Skinner leads the team with 4.18 kills/set and 117 total kills. Ella Swindle leads the team with 256 assists on the year. Defensively, Emma Halter leads the team with 110 digs and Asjia O'Neal leads the team with 38.0 blocks.
