NORMAN – After opening the season at the Ball State Tournament, the Sooners are back on the road for a pair of matches at the Asics Invitational, hosted by Oregon State. The Sooners will play the hosts on Friday, Sept. 1, at 5 p.m. CT and finish the weekend against Boise State on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 1 p.m. CT.

STARTING STRONG
• Head coach Aaron Mansfield started his tenure at Oklahoma off strong as the Sooners swept the field at the Ball State Tournament.
• In the opening match of the season, the Sooners swept Gonzaga, 3-0, behind an impressive performance that saw the team hit .417 for the match. OU notched 36 assists and 13 blocks to take down the Bulldogs.
• In the second match of the day, the Sooners recorded a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 27-25, 25-16) win over Purdue Fort Wayne.
Alexis Shelton recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 11 digs, while
Payton Chamberlain picked up 46 assists.
• The final match of the weekend was highlighted by a career performance from Shelton as the Sooners topped Ball State 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-13, 25-18). Shelton recorded her second double-double with 26 kills and 16 digs. Chamberlain added a double-double of her own, notching 45 assists and 15 digs.
AMAZING ALEXIS
• Sophomore
Alexis Shelton had an opening weekend to remember with a pair of double-doubles and two twenty-kill matches in the first non-conference games of the season.
• After recording just nine kills in a sweep over Gonzaga, Shelton came out firing in game two as she recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 11 digs against Purdue Fort Wayne. On opening day, Shelton hit at a .537 clip across two matches, including an impressive .643 clip against Gonzaga.
• In the final game of the weekend, Shelton recorded a career-high 26 kills en route to her second double-double of the season. Shelton added 16 digs in the match against Ball State and hit at a .392 mark.
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
• The Sooners added four freshmen and three transfers to complete the 2023 roster.

Hannah Pfiffner and
Ireland McNees will make their collegiate debuts and
Daleigh Ellison (Texas State),
Lydia Burts (Liberty) and
Rylee Fay (New Mexico State) will don the Crimson and Cream for the first time this season.
• Fay started her collegiate career at Missouri State and joined the Sooners after two seasons at New Mexico State. She led the Western Atheltic Conference in aces (53) and aces per set (0.52), ranking 13th nationally in 2022.
• Burts was named to the 2022 ASUN All-Conference first team last season, receiving her second career all-conference honor. She led the league in blocks (140) and ranked second in the ASUN in hitting percentage overall (.362) and in conference play (.364).
• The freshmen class was ranked No. 18 in PrepVolleyball.com's 2023 class rankings. The class is the fourth top-50 recruiting class since 2018 and the third consecutive top-20 recruiting class overall.
AGAINST THE COMPETITION
• Oklahoma and Oregon State have met six times in program history, most recently in 2021 when the Beavers traveled to Norman. The series is tied 3-3, with OSU taking the last meeting, 3-2.
• The Sooners have only met Boise State once in program history, going back to 2011. The Sooners won that match, 3-2, inside McCasland Field House.
