Aaron Mansfield announced Friday that Kevin Carroll, who won two national championships as a player and one as an assistant coach and has more than a decade of coaching experience, will be the program's new associate head coach.

Carroll spent last season as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator at Colorado State, where he helped lead the Rams to a 21-9 record. Colorado State ranked among the top 15 teams nationally in total blocks (318.5) and blocks per set (2.8; 14th), ranked 29th nationally in hitting percentage (.263) and led the Mountain West Conference in opponent hitting percentage (.185).Ā

Prior to his time at CSU, Carroll spent eight seasons at Cincinnati from 2017-25, serving as an assistant coach before being elevated to associate head coach and recruiting coordinator in 2023.Ā He played a major role in the signing of consecutive top 40 recruiting classes (2023 and '24). The 2024 class ranked fourth in the Big 12 Conference and 37th in the nation, according to Prep Dig. He also helped lead the Bearcats to NCAA tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019.

With Carroll on staff in 2019, Cincinnati went 15-1 in American Athletic Conference play to win the outright regular season title. The Bearcats advanced to the program's first Sweet 16 by defeating second-ranked and regional host Pitt in the second round. UC earned its first-ever postseason ranking (No. 19) and led the nation in kills per set and assists per set.

In 2018, Carroll helped guide the Bearcats to a 26-8 record and an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. UC ended the season ranked among the top 25 nationally in hitting percentage (.274; 12th), assists per set (13.2; 24th) and kills per set (13.98; 25th).

Carroll coached at West Virginia from 2013-15, where he implemented the team's recruiting philosophy both nationally and internationally. Scouting was an integral part of his role as well as developing middle blockers and pin attackers.

Carroll began his coaching career on the men's volleyball staff at his alma mater, UC Irvine, where he helped guide the Anteaters to the 2013 national title.Ā

As an outside hitter at UC Irvine from 2008-12, Carroll won the 2012 and 2013 national championships (UCI also won the national title during the 2009 season in which Carroll redshirted). During his tenure as a player and coach, UCI went 112-44 (.718) overall.Ā He recorded 516 kills in his collegiate career, including a career-best 29 kills against Penn State in 2010.
Carroll was a member of the USA Men's Junior National team in 2006 and 2007 and traveled to Mexico and Morocco to play in the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) tournament and Junior World Championships. He also competed in two Junior Olympics with the Riptides Volleyball Club, where he won a bronze medal in 2005 and was named to the all-tournament team in 2006.

A Los Alamitos, Calif., product, Carroll earned his bachelor's degree in political science from UC Irvine in 2012. He and his wife Stephanie have a son, Beauden, and a daughter, Juniper.Ā
