Men's Hoops Hits Road for Saturday Matchup at West Virginia

NORMAN – Oklahoma men's basketball returns to the road for a Saturday matchup at West Virginia. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT inside WVU Coliseum.

Saturday's game against the Mountaineers will be broadcast on ESPNews starting at 7 p.m. CT and transition to ESPN2 after the conclusion of the Lakers and Pelicans game (approximatley 7:30 p.m. CT) with Chuckie Kempf and King McClure on the call. Fans may also listen on the Sooner Sports Radio Network  (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing.

Grant Sherfield and Milos Uzan led the Oklahoma offense in their last outing and combined for 25 points. Sherfield recorded his 19th 10-plus point game of the season and finished with a team-best 14 points. Uzan added 11 points and four rebounds. Tanner Groves and Jalen Hill each recorded a team-best five boards and Groves finished with seven points, two steals and two blocks in the Bedlam clash at Lloyd Noble Center.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

Bob Huggins is in his 16th year as the West Virginia head men's basketball coach and has compiled a 339-167 record. Huggins has led the Mountaineers to a 13-9 overall record and 2-7 Big 12 mark this season. In WVU's last outing, the Mountaineers fell to No. 15 TCU 76-72. Prior to its loss to the Horned Frogs, West Virginia knocked off then-No. 15 Auburn in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.

Erik Stevenson averages a team-high 14.0 points and adds 3.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per outing. Tre Mitchell adds 12.3 points and is second on the team with 5.6 rebounds per contest. Joe Toussaint rounds out the group of double-digit scorers and adds 10.5 points per game. Jimmy Bell Jr. wrangles a team-best 6.0 rebounds and Kedrian Johnson dishes out a team-high 3.1 assists per contest. Bell Jr. is second in the league in offensive rebounds per game (2.8).

West Virginia is ranked in the top 60 in six NCAA DI categories. WVU is 10th in free throws made per game (17.2), 11th in free throw attempts per game (24.0), 36th in bench points per game (26.0), 56th in turnovers forced per game (15.0), 58th in turnover margin (2.2) and 60th in scoring offense.

RANKING SUMMARY

Oklahoma is ranked in the top 60 in three NCAA Division I categories. OU is 13th in 3-point percentage defense (29.2%), 37th in field goal percentage (47.7%) and 47th in effective field goal percentage (54.1%). The Sooners lead the conference in effective field goal percentage, fouls per game (15.3 FPG) and 3-point percentage defense. OU is second in field goal percentage and 3-point percentage (35.9%).

Tanner Groves ranks 48th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (6.3) and is second in the conference. Jalen Hill is 26th in free throw percentage (88.1%) and leads the Big 12. Grant Sherfield is second in the Big 12 in 3-point field goals made (54), third in free throw percentage (85.4%) and third in field goal attempts (289).

Sherfield is 24th among active NCAA Division I career leaders in scoring average (15.4), 27th in assist average (4.7), 27th in assists (497) and 31st in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.86). Sherfield is one of 33 active DI players with 1,500-plus points and 350 plus assists. Groves is 71st in career rebounds (704).

NET/STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE

The Sooners are 58th in the NET (2/2) and West Virginia is 24th. Of Oklahoma's nine remaining contests, the Sooners have eight quad one games and one quad two game. All 10 Big 12 teams are ranked in the top 65 and the conference has an average NET ranking of 27.5.

Oklahoma has the toughest remaining schedule based on future opposition winning percentage (140-50, 73.7%). The first two teams are from the Big 12 and all 10 teams are in the top 22.
