OU Advances in Vegas with Overtime Win Against Colorado

April 01, 2026 | Men's Basketball

LAS VEGAS — Oklahoma shot just 37% from the field and was outrebounded 45-38, but held Colorado to 25% shooting after halftime in a 90-86 overtime win Wednesday night at MGM Grand Garden Arena to advance to the semifinals of the College Basketball Crown tournament.

The Sooners, who won for the seventh time in nine games, got 16-plus points from four players in posting their third straight 20-win season. Nijel Pack scored a team-high 20 points — his sixth 20-point effort in the last eight contests — while Tae Davis netted 19, Xzayvier Brown 17 and Kuol Atak 16.

Atak, who hadn't played in OU's last seven games, made four 3-pointers and hit two key free throws with 3.9 seconds left in overtime.

OU (20-15) trailed by 10 late in the first half but got consecutive 3-pointers from Atak and Brown in the last minute to head to intermission down 41-37.

After Brown scored on the opening possession of the second half to trim Colorado's lead to two, the Buffaloes (17-16) scored six straight to go back up by eight. OU responded with a 9-2 run to make it a 49-48 CU advantage with 13:31 remaining.

Trailing 56-50, the Sooners made their move midway through the second period. Davis scored seven points during a 15-2 run that was capped by a Pack 19-foot jumper for a 65-58 lead with 7:03 to go.

CU responded with a 6-0 spurt but OU appeared to take control when it went up 74-67 on Atak's fourth trey with 1:50 remaining.

The Buffaloes kept chipping away and forced overtime with a driving lay-in with 1.6 seconds left by Barrington Hargess, who finished with a game-high 31 points.

Pack nailed treys on OU's first two possessions of the extra session, and Davis' alley-oop jam from Brown put the Sooners up 82-79 with 2:40 to go. The game was reduced to a free throw battle and, after falling behind by one, OU took an 86-85 lead on a pair of Brown foul shots with 32.8 seconds left.

The Sooners came up with a huge stop in the waning moments as Pack forced a missed jumper. After getting the rebound and drawing a foul, Atak drained two free throws for an 88-85 lead with 3.9 seconds to go.

OU fouled on the ensuing inbound pass and Hargess made one of two free throws to make it a two-point game, before Brown iced the contest with two foul shots of his own with 2.8 to go.

Oklahoma made 10 3-pointers on the night to Colorado's seven and committed nine turnovers to the Buffs' 15. The Sooners held CU to 38% field goal shooting for the game, and OU's nine blocked shots were its most in 16 outings. Jadon Jones led the way with three rejections while Pack and Mohamed Wague had two each. Wague added seven points, a team-high eight rebounds, two assists and a game-high three steals. He scored all seven of his points at the free throw line on eight attempts.

Colorado finished the game 33 for 39 (85%) from the free throw line while OU was 28 for 32 (88%). It was the Sooners' most makes of the season.

OU will play Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT against Baylor or Minnesota. The game will be held at T-Mobile Arena and televised by FOX.
