Stutsman a Semifinalist for the Lombardi Award

NORMAN — Oklahoma linebacker Danny Stutsman has been named one of 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award, the Rotary Club of Houston announced Wednesday.
 
Stutsman leads the Sooners this season in total tackles (73), solo tackles (35) and tackles for loss (11.5). He has also registered two sacks, an interception, two pass breakups, one QB hurry, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He ranks second in the Big 12 in tackles for loss per game (1.4; 11th nationally) and total tackles per game (9.1; 26th nationally).
 
The junior from Windermere, Fla., has led OU in tackles in six of eight games, and registered double-digit tackles three times and at least nine tackles five time this season. He notched multiple tackles for loss against SMU, Tulsa and Cincinnati (season-high 3.5 TFLs) and returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown at Tulsa.
 
Stutsman was a recognized as a consensus midseason All-American by the AP, The Athletic, CBS Sports, ESPN, FOX Sports and USA Today. He was named the Walter Camp National FBS Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 10 after logging 17 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a QB hurry and a fumble recovery against SMU.
 
The Lombardi Award is presented each year to the college football offensive or defensive lineman or linebacker who exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame head coach Vince Lombardi in addition to outstanding performance and ability. To be considered for the Lombardi Award, a player must be a down lineman on offense or defense setting up no further than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball at the time of the snap, or a linebacker on defense setting up no more than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage.
 
The four finalists for the Lombardi Award will be announced on Nov. 15.
 
Former Sooners Lee Roy Selmon (1975), Tony Casillas (1985) and Tommie Harris (2003) are previous winners of the Lombardi Award.
 
No. 10/11 Oklahoma plays at Oklahoma State Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Okla. Kickoff for Bedlam is set for 2:30 p.m. and the game will be televised by ABC.
