University of Oklahoma Department of Athletics, Psychological Resources for OU Student-Athletes (OU PROS) Doctoral Internship in Health Service Psychology
The overarching aim of the training program within the University of Oklahoma Department of Athletics, Psychological Resources for OU Student-Athletes (OU PROS) is to train competent and ethical health service psychology professionals with emphasis on evolving in their awareness of intersectional multiculturalism, being well-rounded in their clinical skills, and growing in their sense of self as emerging practitioners. A secondary target of OU PROS is to assist interns in developing the necessary clinical skills to provide psychological testing and counseling to emerging adults who also participate in collegiate sport. Graduates of OU PROS training program are qualified to work within collegiate athletic departments, university counseling centers, and/or private practice settings serving both the general and athlete populations.
Program Summary
- Two (2) intern positions available per training year
- Supervised training in health service psychology and sport psychology within an NCAA Division I athletics department
- Stipend of $30,000
- Eligible for OU health insurance and benefits (except for retirement which is an OU HR policy exception pertaining to psychological interns)
- A maximum of $1,000 in professional development funds to use towards conference attendance, pending budget availability in the OU Athletics Department
Eligibility Criteria
- Currently enrolled in an APA-Accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology, or the equivalent.
- Approval by the academic training program verifying readiness for internship.
- Completion of all pre-internship coursework.
- Completion of all doctoral comprehensive exams.
- Defense of dissertation proposal prior to the start date of internship.
- Approximately 500* total intervention hours by the start date of internship.
- * We are committed to a holistic application review process and do not determine interview offers based solely on the number of intervention hours.
The Ideal Applicant
- Applicants with diverse intersectional identities are especially encouraged to apply to OU PROS.
- Applicants who are interested in pursuing a career in health service psychology and applied sport psychology (e.g., in a collegiate athletics department, in a college counseling center, etc.).
- Applicants who have exceptional clinical and counseling skills from a wide range of training experiences (i.e., not only with college students).
- Applicants with documented interest and/or experience and training in sport and performance psychology, especially with collegiate student-athletes.
- Applicants who are familiar with psychological testing procedures and assessment batteries (e.g., WAIS-IV, WIAT-IV, CPT-3, etc.).
- Applicants who are growth-minded and open to feedback from supervisors, training staff, and peers.
- Applicants who have strong ethical and professional foundations that are central to their growing professional identity.
ACCREDITATION
OU PROS is a full member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) with a Member Code of 2605.
OU PROS is currently unaccredited by the American Psychological Association's Commission on Accreditation (CoA). We completed our site visit with the CoA on June 16th and 17th, 2025, and eagerly await their accreditation decision on our program. However, we cannot guarantee that we will become accredited during this timeframe.
