TULSA, Okla. — The Oklahoma soccer team stretched its unbeaten streak to three matches with a 1-0 win over Tulsa on Thursday in Tulsa.
"I'm obviously excited for the win, a shutout for Olivia (Ramey) and a first goal for Morganne (Eikelbarner)," said OU head coach Mark Carr. "They both really stepped up tonight.
"In terms of our performance, it was not at the level we expect and we have to be more aggressive around the goal. We're looking forward to how we improve our performance on Sunday vs. ORU."
The Sooners (2-2-2) came out firing, taking the first 10 shots of the game before the Golden Hurricane (3-3-1) got their first look. On the night, OU outshot TU 23-7, putting eight looks on goal.
Freshman Morganne Eikelbarner scored her first career goal in the 32nd minute off an assist from sophomore Ella Pappas to put the Sooners on the board. Pappas played a ball just outside the six-yard box for Eikelbarner, who perfectly placed it from the left side of the box into the bottom right of the net.
The second half saw a closer match as the Sooners edged Tulsa in shots, 7-6. OU junior Cailey England and senior Emma Hawkins got the best looks for the Sooners in the second period. In the 64th minute, England fired from deep outside the 18-yard box and nearly curved one in but it bounced off the crossbar and out of play. Hawkins took seven shots on the night, putting a pair on frame, including a look in the 81st minute from outside left that had to be saved by the TU keeper.
Hawkins led the match with seven shots, while Eikelbarner put both of her looks on goal. Fellow freshman Hadley Murrell took three shots while England fired a pair, putting her one deep look on frame.
Freshman Olivia Ramey made her first career start in goal for the Sooners, collecting a clean sheet with help from OU's stout backline on the night.
Up next, the Sooners stay in the Tulsa area to play at Oral Roberts (4-2-1) on Sunday at 5 p.m. CT. The game can be seen on ORU Sports Network and admission to the match is free.
