NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department announced Thursday that the football team's season-opening game against UTEP on Saturday — which will mark Brent Venables' first as OU's head coach — is sold out.
This marks the program's 141st consecutive sellout of a regularly scheduled home game (OU did not open the upper deck when last year's season opener against Tulane was moved from New Orleans to Norman due to Hurricane Ida.). The sellout string started with the first contest of the Bob Stoops era in 1999 against Indiana State and is the second-longest among FBS programs. The Sooners are a nation's-best 130-11 (.922) at home during the stretch.
The Sooners have won three more Big 12 championships (14) since the start of the 1999 season than they have lost home games. They have outscored their opponents by an average margin of 43-17 during the sellout streak.
A limited number of tickets are still available for next Saturday's 6 p.m. home game against Kent State. Fans can purchase those here or by calling (405) 325-2424.
This week's OU-UTEP game is being televised by FOX Sports.
