Williams an Honorable Mention for WBCA All-America

March 31, 2022 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – Oklahoma senior forward Madi Williams was earned an honorable mention to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America team, it was announced Thursday by the WBCA. She is the eighth Sooner all-time to be honored by the organization and first since Aaryn Ellenberg in 2014.

The 2022 Cheryl Miller Award finalist was the only player in the country to post 18.0 points. 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while playing under 30 minutes per game. Her 18.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game led the Sooners on the year as the team produced the second-largest win improvement from the previous year (13) in school history.

She two-time unanimous All-Big 12 selection, Williams hit double-digit points in all but two games this season en route to eight double-doubles. She became the fourth Sooner to amass 1,800 points and 800 rebounds in their Oklahoma career. Following another historic season, Williams joined Courtney Paris as the only other Sooner to lead Oklahoma in rebounding in four consecutive seasons.

Her 16.2 points per game career average ranks fourth all-time at Oklahoma. Williams ranks in the school's top-10 career annals in points, field goals, field goal attempts, free throw attempts, rebounds, double-doubles and double-digit scoring games at Oklahoma.

Williams was instrumental in OU's historic turnaround under first-year head coach Jennie Baranczyk. The senior started every game she played this season and helped OU increase its win total by 13 games from last year to this season. Guided by Williams and her teammates, Oklahoma ascended into the AP Top 25 for the first time since 2017 as the Sooners rose to No. 12 earlier in the season and won the program's first games in the Big 12 Championship and NCAA Tournament since 2017.
