Tanner Groves was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team for his performance in the classroom and on the court as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America Tuesday.
Groves graduated from Eastern Washington during the summer with a Bachelor of Arts degree in interdisciplinary studies with a 3.89 GPA. The senior from Spokane, Wash., is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in organizational leadership and has a 4.00 GPA.
He has started 32 games this season and averages 11.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest. Groves is shooting 53.9% (144-267) from the field and 37.9% (39-103) from deep.
Groves has been named Big 12 Newcomer of the week three times and is one of 10 men's basketball finalists for the Senior Class Award.
Brady Manek was selected to the third team last season and it marks back-to-back seasons the Sooners have had an honoree.
Oklahoma opens NIT competition against Missouri State Tuesday, March 15 at 6 p.m. at Lloyd Noble Center.
