Groves Named Senior Class Award Finalist

February 10, 2022 | Men's Basketball

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Oklahoma's Tanner Groves has been named a 2021-22 Senior Class Award Finalist as announced by the organization Thursday.

Groves was originally selected as one of the 30 men's basketball candidates for the award and is one of 10 finalists. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be classified as NCAA Division I seniors or graduate-students and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

The Spokane, Wash., product, has started in all 23 games he has appeared in and averages 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Groves has a team-best five 20-plus point games this season and has led Oklahoma in scoring in eight contests and in rebounds 12 times. He has been named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week twice.

Prior to his time in the Crimson and Cream, Groves was named 2020-21 Big Sky Player of the Year and was a three-time Big Sky All-Academic team honoree at Eastern Washington.

The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 men's candidates and 30 women's candidates announced earlier in the season. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through March 21. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners. The Senior CLASS Award recipients will be announced during the 2022 NCAA Men's Final Four® and NCAA Women's Final Four®.
