Sooners Host Texas to Open Big 12 Play

NORMAN – Oklahoma (9-3, 0-0 Big 12) opens Big 12 play at home against No. 6/6 Texas (11-1, 0-0 Big 12) on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 1 p.m.
Saturday's game against the Longhorns will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Pete Sousa and Lance Blanks on the call. Fans may also listen on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing.
OU last played on Dec. 20, beating Florida 62-53 in the inaugural Jumpman Invitational. Grant Sherfield led the Sooners with 22 points on 7 of 13 shooting. The Fort Worth, Texas product shot 4 of 6 from deep and recorded four of the Sooners' seven 3-pointers.
Tanner Groves recorded his second double-double of the season and finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jalen Hill wrangled a team-high 12 boards and Milos Uzan dished out five assists.

SCOUTING THE LONGHORNS
Rodney Terry has served as interim head coach for the last four games and has coached Texas to a 4-0 mark, including a 97-72 victory over Texas A&M - Commerce on Tuesday, Dec. 27.Marcus Carr is the UT team leader in points (17.8) and steals (1.8) per game. Carr matched his single game career high 41 points against TAMC and finished 13 of 19 from the field and 10 of 15 from three. Tyrese Hunter, a transfer from Iowa State, averages 11.3 points and 3.2 assists per contest. Timmy Allen dishes out a team-best 4.3 assists and 6.0 rebounds per outing. Dillon Mitchell adds 8.5 points and 5.3 boards per game. Carr, Hunter, Allen and Mitchell have started all 12 contests. Dylan Disu has started 11 games and averages a team-best 1.3 blocks per game.
Texas is ranked in the top 25 in eight NCAA DI categories. The Longhorns are third in assist/turnover ratio (1.65), sixth in scoring margin (21.6), seventh in turnover margin (6.3), seventh in assists per game (19.2), 14th in fastbreak points (17.25), 16th in scoring offense (83.8), 17th in turnovers forced per game and 18th in field goal percentage (50.0).
LAST MEETING: Texas
The Sooners shot 45.1% (23-51) from the field and forced overtime after outscoring the Longhorns 37-35 in the second half. UT edged the Sooners on a tip in with 11 seconds left in the extra frame.
SHERFIELD BIG 12 CO-NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
The Fort Worth, Texas, product earned his first Big 12 honor after his two-game performance against Kansas City and then-No. 9/8 Arkansas. He averaged 23.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game and led the Sooners in points in the two outings. Sherfield shot 58.3% (14-24) from the field and 66.7% (8-12) from deep. He also logged a team-high 33.0 minutes per contest.
In the past two seasons, Oklahoma has had five Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors. Tanner Groves earned the accolade three times last season.
