Sooners Drop Bedlam Dual to No. 12 Oklahoma State

Final Results

Despite both teams winning five matches, it was bonus points that downed Oklahoma 21-15 in the 185th edition of Bedlam.

The Sooners (2-2, 0-1 Big 12) won five of the first seven matches but dropped the final three bouts as No. 12 Oklahoma State (5-1, 1-0 Big 12) pulled away at the end.

"It's a disappointing loss," head coach Lou Rosselli said. "We had them in the cross hairs. At the same time, we've just got to get better."

No. 17 Josh Heindselman started the dual with a low-scoring affair with No. 25 Konner Doucet in the heavyweight bout. Tied 1-1 going into overtime, Heindselman picked up an escape and rode out into the second overtime to clinch an early 3-0 lead over the Cowboys. His win marks his fifth win in the Bedlam rivalry.

Following Heindselman, No. 16 Joey Prata picked up an early takedown over No. 8 Trevor Mastrogiovanni. Prata rode Mastrogiovanni for the entire third period to claim a 4-2 decision and improve OU's lead to 6-0.

At 141, No. 28 Mosha Schwartz jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period but No. 21 Carter Young responded with a takedown in the second. Schwartz escaped in the second and strengthened his lead with a late takedown, and upset No. 21 8-6. Schwartz's win improves his record to 8-1 on the season.

Right after Schwartz, Mitch Moore logged another decision win for the Sooners with a 3-1 victory over No. 18 Victor Voinovich at 149.

Leading 12-7 going into the 165-pound matchup, No. 17 Gerrit Nijenhuis tallied two takedowns to lead 4-2 after the first period. With five seconds remaining in the 165-pound battle, Nijenhuis escaped to re-claim the lead 6-5 and win the match over No. 20 Wyatt Sheets.

Oklahoma will be on the road to face Edinboro on Saturday, Jan. 7.
