Sooners Topple Edinboro with 21-15 Win

In its first dual of the new year, No. 23 Oklahoma defeated EdinboroĀ 22-15 Saturday nightĀ at Edinboro.Ā 


After being tied halfway through the third period, No. 10 Joey Prata took Aiden Lewis down with seconds remaining to earn the 5-4 decision and claim the early 3-0 advantage for OU. His comeback win improved his season record to 7-2.


No. 31 Wyatt Henson followed suit with a quick 10-3 lead over Cam Soda in the first period. Soda clawed back in the third period but Henson maintained the edge to claim the 11-8 decision.Ā 


At 141 pounds, No. 24 Mosha Schwartz was pinned, knotting the score up 6-6.Ā 


No. 13 Mitch Moore responded with an early 6-1 lead in the first period, before Ryan Burgos shortened Moore's advantage. Moore held on to win 6-4, clinching his seventh straight win of the season to make the score 9-6 Sooners.Ā 


After trailing through the first two periods, No. 26 Jacob Butler escaped midway through the third period to force sudden victory. Tied 2-2, Luke Kemerer took Butler down to instantly win the bout and tie the dual up 9-9.


Fresh off a top-20 win, No. 16 Gerrit Nijenhuis recorded his first pin of the season after putting Alex Garee on his back and pinning him at the 52Ā second mark to push OU in front 15-9.Ā 


Darrien Roberts dropped the 174-pound match 4-0 to Jared McGill.


In his first collegiate start, Tate Picklo took down Jack Kilner to take a 2-0 lead with seconds remaining in the first period. Kilner escaped in the second period, but Picklo responded to earn the escape point to start the third. He secured the 3-1 decision and gave Oklahoma the 18-12 lead.Ā 


Seth Seago fell short in his first bout since the Journeymen Collegiate Classic, 8-2, chipping OU's lead to 18-15 headed into the final matchup of the night.Ā 


No. 19 Josh Heindselman immediately claimed control over Nick Lodato with three takedowns between the first two periods. Heindselman extended his lead with seven of his points coming under the final minute of the dual, notching his third major decision of the season, 18-6 to deliver the 22-15 victory to the Sooners.Ā 


OU is now 3-0 all-time vs. Edinboro, head coach Lou Rosselli's alma mater.Ā 


The Sooners will compete in the Bobby Kaufman Memorial OpenĀ on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 9:30 a.mĀ CT.
