Sooners Head To Pennsylvania For Weekend of Wrestling

NORMAN — The Oklahoma wrestling team hits the road this weekend for the Journeymen WrangleMania and Journeymen Collegiate Classic.

LAST TIME OUT

The Sooners began their 2022-23 campaign with three runner-up finishes and nine placing in the top 5 of their respective classes at the Michigan State Open.

No. 15 Josh Heindselman recorded his second consecutive second-place finish in the 285-pound weight class at the Michigan State Open, only falling short to No. 3 Mason Parris (Michigan).

No. 13 Joey Prata secured his second 125-pound finals' appearance at the Open with two decision wins and a tiebreaker in his favor.

In his first appearance in the Crimson and Cream, Mosha Schwartz advanced to the 141-pound championship with his first pin of the season and a decision win.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING

Oklahoma marks its first trip to the Journeymen WrangleMania and Journeymen Collegiate Classic in Bethlehem, Pa., this weekend.

Saturday will include two afternoon duals against No. 14 Lehigh and Buffalo. The duals can be streamed on Rofkin.

Following the duals, the Sooners will compete in the Journeymen Collegiate Classic on Sunday. Fifteen teams will make up the round-robin tournament field, including No. 6 Arizona State, No. 8 NC State, No. 14 Lehigh, No. 17 Nebraska and No. 20 Penn. The Journeymen Collegiate Classic will be available on FloWrestling.

SUPER SEVEN

Seven Sooners appeared in FloWrestling and Intermat's inaugural rankings after their showings at the Michigan State Open.

The rankings are as follows: Prata at No. 13/14, Heindselman at No. 15/17, Mitch Moore at No. 17/16, Wyatt Henson at No. 24/20, Keegan Moore at HM/No. 22, Gerrit Nijenhuis at NR/No. 22, and Mosha Schwartz at NR/No. 26 in their respective classes.

Jacob Butler and Greyden Penner were also recognized as honorable mention in their respective weight classes.

WEEKEND INFORMATION

The Buffalo dual will begin at 1 p.m. and will be followed by the Lehigh dual at 3 p.m on Saturday. Then, on Sunday, the Journeymen Collegiate Classic will start at 9 a.m. and last the remainder of the day.
