NORMAN – Oklahoma freshman Nathan Han has been named the Central Region Rookie of the Year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Monday morning.

Han compiled a 13-11 overall record in his first year at OU. Han led the team in fall singles wins with six and has been a force for the Sooners on courts four, five and six in dual matches. Han worked his way up the lineup from No. 6 to No. 4 during a challenging Big 12 slate. The unranked freshman earned his first ranked victory on March 14 against Texas Tech when he defeated No. 115 Reed Collier in a three-set thriller.

Han earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in doubles with sophomore Alex Martinez. The duo was a fixture at the No. 1 spot and entered the ITA doubles rankings at No. 28 nationally. With Martinez, Han tallied wins over highly-ranked opponents including then-No. 10 Constantin Frantzen and Sven Lah of Baylor and 2019 All-Americans Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa of Wichita State, who were No. 32 in the nation at the time.

Han's award marks the fourth straight season a Sooner has captured the region's Rookie of the year award after Mark Mandlik in 2020; Mason Beiler in 2019; and Jake Van Emburgh in 2018.
