April 01, 2021 | Wrestling

NORMAN – Oklahoma landed eight wrestlers on the 2021 Academic All-Big 12 team, including three with 4.0 GPAs. The eight total Sooners honored mark the most since head coach Lou Rosselli arrived in Norman in 2016.

Josh Heindselman, Cam Picklo and Justin Thomas all earned 4.0s and placement on the first team, alongside Carson Berryhill, Dom Demas, Jake Woodley and Zack Zeamer. Tony Madrigal earned second-team honors.

The Sooners 118 all-time Academic All-Big 12 honors are the second-most in the conference.

Justin Thomas' selection marks the fourth consecutive first-team honor for the redshirt senior who has amassed over 75 wins at OU.

Jake Woodley and Dom Demas, both All-Americans on the mat, earn their second and third honors, respectively.

Redshirt freshmen Josh Heindselman and Cam Picklo both make their first appearance on the Academic team, garnering perfect GPAs. Carson Berryhill and Zack Zeamer joined Heindselman and Picklo as first-time honorees.

In total, 98 student-athletes made the first team, while 27 selections make up the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. First-year students and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
