NORMAN – No. 1 Oklahoma men's gymnastics team returns to the floor Saturday afternoon in Berkeley, Calif. for its regular season finale against No. 11 California at 5 p.m. CT. 

NOTES AND NUMBERS FOR MEET SIX

THE MEET

No. 1 Oklahoma will travel for the sixth meet of the 2021 season Saturday, visiting No. 11 California at Haas Pavilion. With a win on Saturday, the Sooners will have completed six out of the last seven regular seasons undefeated. The meet will be streamed on PAC 12+.

The Sooners return to action after tying No. 4 Stanford 409.300-409.300 at home on March 13.

SOONERS NO. 1 IN CGA STANDINGS

After week nine of NCAA men's gymnastics competition, Oklahoma continues to hold the top spot in the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) standings. 
 
The Sooners hold the top team average (413.867) and hold a top three spot in all six events. The Sooners rank first on floor exercise (71.117), second on still rings (68.050), vault (72.783), parallel bars (68.733) and high bar (67.217) and third on pommel horse (67.383). 

Individually, Sooners hold three of the top 10 spots in the all-around rankings, led by junior Spencer Goodell's 81.467, which is good for sixth. Junior Vitaliy Guimaraes holds eighth with an 80.917 and senior Matt Wenske ranks tenth in the nation with his 80.717 all-around NQA. 

On floor exercise, Sooners hold two of the top five spots in the CGA standings. Senior Gage Dyer ranks No. 1 with a 14.850, putting him 0.200 ahead of his closet opponent. Junior Morgan Seyler ranks fourth at 14.450.

OU holds two top-10 spots in the pommel horse standings, led by Guimaraes' 13.767, good for ninth place. Freshman Zach Nunez follows close behind in the number 10 spot with a 13.767.

On still rings, two Sooners find themselves in the top 10. Wenske leads the way with his 13.833 average that ranks ninth overall. In tenth, Guimaraes holds his third top-10 spot in the country on rings with a 13.817 average, and Goodell is right behind him in 12th with a 13.767.

The Sooners have three in the top-10 on vault. Junior Mason Menser is ranked fourth in the nation with a 14.717. Wenske holds the eight spot with a 14.650 vault NQA. Dyer holds ninth with a 14.617.

Oklahoma put three gymnasts in the top 10 in the parallel bars ranks following week nine. Wenske (14.050) ranks seventh, while Goodell (13.800) holds ninth and sophomore Alan Camillus (13.783) holds tenth.

On the last event, high bar, Guimaraes collects his fourth top-10 spot in the country with a 13.800 average, putting him in the four spot. Sophomore Jack Freeman finds himself eleventh with a 13.517.

LAST TIME OUT

No. 1 ranked Oklahoma men's gymnastics team tied No. 4 Stanford on Saturday afternoon inside McCasland Field House with a score of 409.300-409.300.

In a tight battle, both teams were pressured in the last two rotations to push ahead to win the meet.  

OU rotated Olympic order this afternoon, beginning on floor exercise. Senior captain Gage Dyer returned to the floor after a shoulder injury and won the event title with a 14.600. Junior Morgan Seyler and junior Spencer Goodell added a 14.250 and a 14.200 to tally up a 70.600 overall score for the Sooners. 

In the second rotation on pommel horse, OU registered a 64.100. Seyler led the Sooners in the event with a 13.100. Goodell and redshirt senior Matt Wenske chipped in respective scores of 12.950 and a 12.900.

On still rings in the third rotation, the Sooners tallied a total of 67.600. Goodell put up the highest score for the Sooners with a 13.800, also good for a career best. Seyler put up a career-high score of 13.550 in the event, as well. Redshirt Senior Matt Wenske helped with a score of 13.700. 

Moving to vault in the fourth rotation, Oklahoma put up their highest event score of the afternoon, 72.800. Redshirt senior Mason Menser registered a 14.850, good for a career best on his senior night. Each Sooner score came in at a 14.300 or better. 

Oklahoma recorded a season-best tally of 68.900 on parallel bars in the fifth rotation. Three Sooners improved their career-high scores. Senior Alexei Vernyi went above and beyond his previous career-best score of 13.600 with a 14.050 set. Sophomore Alan Camillus improved his 13.700 to a 14.050, while Goodell put up a 13.900, also good for a career-high score.

In the sixth and final rotation, Oklahoma competed on high bar. Redshirt sophomore Cesar Gracia led the Sooners with a 13.500. Vernyi's 13.250 and sophomore Jack Freeman's 13.200 helped tally OU's overall score on the event to 65.300. 

Goodell completed the all-around with a meet-best 82.000, while Wenske went 80.800. 

UP NEXT

The Sooners will take a week off before competing at the MPSF Conference Championships, Saturday, April 3, in Colorado Springs, Colo., against No. 3 Stanford, No. 11 Cal and No. 14 Air Force.
