Groves Selected as Senior CLASS Award Candidate

December 08, 2021 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN Tanner Groves is one of 30 men's basketball student-athletes that has been selected as a 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award candidate.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Groves, a transfer from Eastern Washington, graduated from EWU prior to his arrival in Norman with a degree in interdisciplinary studies and was a three-time winter Big Sky All-Academic team honoree. He is pursuing a Master of Organizational Leadership degree at Oklahoma.

He has volunteered his time with charities, food banks and basketball camps and is actively involved with Oklahoma's Team Impact teammate Jude Starkey.

On the court, Groves was named the 2020-21 Big Sky Conference Player of the Year and was selected to the All-Big Sky team and NABC All-District 6 first team in the same season.

The Spokane, Wash., product, has twice been named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week in his short time with the Crimson and Cream, and is Oklahoma's team leader in points (14.7) and rebounds (6.3) per game. Groves is third in the Big 12 in field-goal percentage (58.9%) and fourth in defensive rebounds per game (5.4).

The men's candidates will be narrowed to ten finalists later in the season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will then select the men's basketball student-athletes that exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2022 NCAA Men's Final Four® this spring.
