LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Oklahoma wrestling's Jake Woodley advanced to his semifinal match while four more Sooners will have the chance to fight through the consolation bracket tomorrow as action comes to a close on day one of the Cliff Keen Invitational.

The No. 18 Sooners (2-1, 2-0 Big 12) have five wrestlers poised to compete on the second day of action in the Las Vegas Convention Center tomorrow. Woodley (197), Mitch Moore (149), Justin Thomas (157), Joe Grello (165), and Darrien Roberts (184) are all set to wrestle in the final matches of the prestigious tournament.

"We wrestled decently today. I saw some really good things out of some of the guys and I saw some situations where we need to wrestle with more grit in order to win," said head coach Lou Rosselli.

No. 6 Jake Woodley (10-0) won all three of his matches on Friday to remain unbeaten on the season and book his spot in the semifinals. The redshirt senior All-American secured the first pin of his career in his opening match, going 102 career matches before securing his first win by fall. This will be his second career Cliff Keen semifinal appearance.

Woodley's first period pin was one of four of the kind for the Sooners on the day as Mitch Moore, Anthony Mantanona and Joe Grello also ended their matches in the first.

"Woodley did a very nice job. He shows the grit we are looking for. He continues to stand out," said coach Rosselli. "Jake out works his opponents and that's why he is having so much succes."

At 149, No. 16 Mitch Moore (6-3) won his two opening matches, the first victory coming via fall and the second came thanks to an escape in the second tie breaker period against Oregon State's Cory Crooks. He lost his quarterfinal match to No. 2 Sammy Sasso of Ohio State.

No. 17 Justin Thomas (5-2) joined a host of Sooners who put together strong first match performances when he claimed his first tech fall victory of the year to earn bonus points for the Sooners. He would lose his next match, but bounce back with two more victories to stay alive in the consolation ladder.

Joe Grello (2-2) faced a tough task in his first round matchup with Matt Malcom, a four-time All-American and 2019 National Champion at the Division II level for Nebraska-Kearney. Grello battled but lost an 8-2 decision. He would rattle off two wins in the 165-pound consolation bracket to be able to wrestle on day two, they were the first two wins of his Oklahoma wrestling career.

Two straight decision wins for Darrien Roberts (8-2) put him into the championship quarterfinals where he would lose a tight contest 3-2 to Ohio State's Kaleb Romero. He will face Austin Eldredge of Nebraska-Kearney tomorrow morning.

In the heavyweight division, No. 18 Josh Heindselman (5-5) claimed two victories via decision, but lost in a top-20 matchup with Oregon State's Gary Traub in the final second of sudden victory.

Redshirt senior Anthony Mantanona (6-3) started his tournament strong with a first period pin (1:32) of Nebraska-Kearney's Billy Higgins, but lost his next two matches in close decisions. Both bouts were decided by only two points.

Redshirt freshmen Jack Creamer (0-4), the four star recruit from Sterling, Va., wrestled at 125 and was defeated by No. 15 Devin Schroder of Purdue and Cal Poly's Antonio Lorenzo in his second ever action in the Crimson and Cream. Redshirt Junior Zack Zeamer (2-5) battled with No. 8 Chad Red of Nebraska in his first match of the day but lost in an 8-4 decision before losing again in the next round.

Action starts back up tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. CT live on FloWrestling. Championship and third-place matches will begin at 5:00 p.m CT.
