NORMAN – Fresh off its first road victory of the season against UCF, Oklahoma (6-1, 0-0 Big 12) host No. 12/14 Florida (6-0, 0-0 SEC) Wednesday at Lloyd Noble Center at 7 p.m. 

The Sooners led for 33:47 minutes and controlled the game late despite UCF's ability to make 3-pointers down the stretch.

Umoja Gibson led Oklahoma with 13 points and finished the night 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Ethan Chargois recorded a season-high 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting. Jordan Goldwire put together his most complete game in the Crimson and Cream. He recorded 11 points, seven assists, four rebounds, four steals and only one turnover.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Oklahoma and Florida will play for the fourth time and the first time since the Sooners 65-60 victory over the Gators in 2018 at the Bad Boy Mowers Battle For Atlantis.

SCOUTING THE GATORS

  •  No. 12/14 Florida is 6-0 and under the direction of Michael White. White is in his seventh year at UF and holds a 129-75 record with the Gators.
  • Florida opened the season with a 74-61 victory over Elon (11/9) before beating rival Florida State 71-55 (11/14). The Gators topped Milwaukee (81-45) and two power five conference foes in Cal (80-60, 11/22) and Ohio State (71-68, 11/24). UF played Sunday, Nov. 28 and earned the 84-45 victory over Troy (11/28).
  • Colin Castleton leads the Gators in points (14.8), rebounds (10.0) and blocks (2.8) per game. Castleton has led UF in points in three games and has been their leading rebounder in five. Five Gators are averaging double figure points.
  • In Florida's last game against Troy, six Gators finished with double-figure points and shot 44.3% from the field (27-61), while holding the Trojans to 32.1% shooting and 12.5% from three.

HONORING LON KRUGER

During halftime of Oklahoma's game against Florida, the Sooners will celebrate the illustrious career of Lon Kruger. Kruger, who coached Oklahoma for 10 seasons, retired at the end of the 2020-21 season. Below are some of his career accomplishments.
  • The first Division I coach to guide five different schools to the NCAA Tournament.
  • Career record of 674-423 (.609), the 36th most wins of all time at the NCAA DI level.
  • Notched 17 20-plus-win seasons
  • Guided teams to 20 NCAA Tournaments, five Sweet 16s and two Final Fours.
  • Recipient of the 2019 Legends of Coaching Award and 2017 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Metropolitan Award
  • First Oklahoma coach in program history to win six NCAA tournament games within his first five seasons.
  • AP Big 12 Coach of the Year (2014)
  • Mountain West Coach of the Year (2008)
  • Two time SEC Coach of the Year (1992, 1994)
  • Coached six first team All-Big 12 selections and 32 Academic All-Big 12 honorees
  • Coached a trio of top 10 NBA Draft picks – Mitch Richmond (1988, 5th), Buddy Hield (2016, 6th) and Trae Young (2018, 5th). Hield was a two-time Big 12 Player of the Year and national player of the year (2016), and Trae Young was national freshman of the year (2018).
