Robinson Tips WNBA Season Sunday

July 24, 2020 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – The 24th season of the WNBA begins this weekend inside IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., with Danielle Robinson set for her ninth season in the league and her first with the Las Vegas Aces.

Robinson and the Aces arrived at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., in early July to begin training camp for a 22-game season inside the WNBA "bubble." All games played at a single site without fans due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The three-time WNBA All-Star will look to help the Aces build on their 2019 postseason run to the WNBA Playoff semifinals, where they were eliminated by the eventual champion Washington Mystics.

Robinson signed with the Aces as a free agent this spring, returning to the same franchise she played the first five seasons of her career with when it was located in San Antonio. The veteran point guard is expected to help the Aces backcourt depth.

As a member of the Minnesota Lynx in 2019, Robinson played in 34 games and averaged 10.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game to go with 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals. She averaged 27 minutes and shot 43.7% from the floor.

For her career, Robinson boasts averages of 9.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She was named an All-Star in three consecutive seasons from 2014-16 and has been named to the WNBA All-Defensive team three times (2012, 2013, 2014).

While at OU, Robinson led the Sooners to back-to-back Final Four appearances in 2009 and 2010 and finished her as one of three women's college basketball players to cross the 2,000-point, 700-assist and 300-steal benchmarks for her career.

Robinson and the Aces open the season Sunday against the Chicago Sky. The game will be a rematch of last year's WNBA Playoff second round game, which the Aces won 93-92 with a near half-court buzzer beater from Dearica Hamby.

The game will tip at 2 p.m. CT on ABC.
