NORMAN – University of Oklahoma head women's basketball coach
Jennie Baranczyk announced the signing of 6-2 forward Sa'Myah Smith on Saturday.
A rising redshirt senior, Smith joins the Sooners after one season at Virginia and three seasons at LSU, where she helped the Tigers win the 2023 national championship. Smith has appeared in more than 100 career games and owns career averages of 6.5 points on over 50% shooting and 5.8 rebounds per game.
"We're so excited to welcome Sa'Myah to our Oklahoma women's basketball family," Baranczyk said. "She plays incredibly hard, competes on every possession and knows what it takes to win at the highest level. She brings championship experience, toughness and a physical presence that will make an impact for us on both ends of the floor. Sooner Nation is going to love the energy and edge she brings to our program."
Named to the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year watch list prior to last season, Smith played in 23 games and made 20 starts at Virginia in 2025-26, averaging 7.9 points on 45% shooting, 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. She posted a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double against Georgia in the NCAA Tournament and added 14 points and 10 rebounds against Clemson in ACC action. Smith scored in double figures eight times, including seven against Power Four opponents, and recorded six double-digit rebounding games.
In 2024-25 at LSU, Smith started 28 games and appeared in 36 contests, averaging 6.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game as she posted five double-doubles, including two in the NCAA Tournament. After playing in the first seven games of the 2023-24 season, Smith suffered a lower-leg injury and missed the remainder of the season. As a freshman in 2022-23, she was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team after playing in all 36 games for LSU's national championship team, averaging 4.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
A native of Texarkana, Texas, Smith starred at DeSoto High School, where she led DeSoto to back-to-back Texas Class 6A state championships as a junior and senior. She was considered the No. 57 player in the country by ESPN and was named the Dallas Morning News Player of the Year as a senior.
Smith is the fourth addition to Oklahoma's transfer portal class, joining Keeley Parks, Jordan Speiser and Isi Ozzy-Momodu. The group joins a program coming off back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances under Baranczyk.
