Four Sooners Honored for Academic Achievements

MANHEIM, Pa. -- Four Sooners were named Scholar All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, the organization announced on Thursday.
In addition to the individual honors, the NWCA recognized the Sooners for their team GPA of 3.18, good for 27th highest among Division I wrestling programs. The Sooners' four individual honorees are tied with North Dakota State for the most in the Big 12.
"On behalf of the NWCA and our Board of Directors, we are ecstatic to honor the amazing academic achievement demonstrated by this year's Scholar All-American teams and individuals," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. "NCAA Division I institutions continue to demonstrate their commitment to academics."
The first Sooner honored was Christian Moody, who will graduate next week with a degree in health and exercise science. He'll pursue a masters at the University of Central Oklahoma beginning in the fall. Moody has had a successful career in Norman, earning multiple academic honors and four qualifications to the NCAA Championships.
Dom Demas makes the NWCA Scholar list for the first time in his career as a redshirt sophomore. The computer engineering major is building a storied career in Norman both on the mat and classroom, earning All-American honors for the past two seasons and being named a scholar All-American this year.
Justin Thomas continues to excel in the classroom, collecting NWCA Scholar All-American honors for the second consecutive year. The two-time All-Big 12 academic honoree has tallied over 60 wins entering his senior season in 2020-21.
The final Sooner honored was Jake Woodley, a health and exercise science major from Pittsburgh earns NWCA honors for the first time this year. The redshirt sophomore has been successful on the mat and punched his ticket to the canceled NCAA Championship with a strong performance at Big 12s in March.
As a team, the Sooners GPA of 3.18 puts them 27th nationally, and into the top 30 for the first time of the Lou Rosselli era.
