FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
• The Sooners will look to snap a five-game losing streak on Saturday as OU heads to Austin. Texas won the earlier meeting of the season 60-56 in Norman on Jan. 28.
• In OU's last outing,
Tatum Veitenheimer stuffed the stat sheet with a career-high seven steals to go with five assists and eight points, marking the second time she filled the box score this season.
• With 121 made 3s this season,
Taylor Robertson is just one away from tying the Big 12 record of 122 set by Kansas State's Laurie Koehn in 2002-03. The sophomore broke the OU single-season treys record when she drained her 116
th, surpassing the Aaryn Ellenberg's mark of 115 set in 2012-13. Robertson is the only player in Big 12 history to hit 100+ 3-pointers in back-to-back seasons after scoring 105 as a freshman in 2018-19.
• Robertson was also named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award's top 10. The award recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. Robertson is averaging a team-high 20.1 points per game and a nation-leading 4.78 3-pointers per game. The list will be pared down to five finalists in March with the winner named at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 10, 2020, along with the other four members of the Women's Starting Five.
• OU has only ever played on "leap day" once in program history, defeating Texas Tech 71-62 on the road on Feb. 29, 2012.
ROBERTSON NAMED TO ANN MEYERS DRYSDALE TOP 10
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Feb. 11 that Oklahoma sophomore guard
Taylor Robertson is one of the top 10 candidates for the 2020 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award. Named after the first player, male or female, named to an All-America Team in four straight college seasons, the annual award in its third year recognizes the top shooting guard in women's NCAA Division I college basketball.
Robertson is averaging a team-high 20.1 points per game and a nation-leading 4.78 3-pointers per game. The sharpshooter has knocked down 121 triples to rank second in OU single-season history as well as to become the first Big 12 player to hit 100 or more in back-to-back seasons. Robertson already broke the OU single-season record and is just two triples away from tying the Big 12 record that has stood since 2002-03.
Robertson is the Big 12's representative on the 2020 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award's top 10 list.
The Selection Committee for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. In March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Meyers Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. New to the award this season is Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies. Starting Five Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies will go live Friday, February 14 on hoophallawards.com.
The winner of the 2020 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 10, 2020, along with the other four members of the Women's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard Award, the Cheryl Miller Small Forward Award, the Katrina McClain Power Forward Award, and the Lisa Leslie Center Award, in addition to the Men's Starting Five.
Previous winners of the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year Award include Asia Durr, Louisville (2019) and Victoria Vivians, Mississippi State (2018).
FOUR SOONERS NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-BIG 12
Junior forward
Mandy Simpson and sophomore guards
Jessi Murcer and
Tatum Veitenheimer were named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team (includes student-athletes with a 3.20 or better GPA) while sophomore forward
Nydia Lampkin earned Academic All-Big 12 Second Team honors (3.00 GPA or higher).
This is the first career academic honor for Murcer, Veitenheimer and Lampkin and the second for Simpson, who is one of four Big 12 student-athletes to register a 4.0 GPA.
Under head coach
Sherri Coale, 66 OU players have earned a total of 131 Academic All-Big 12 honors.
