FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
• The Oklahoma women's basketball team will look to complete the season sweep of Oklahoma State on Tuesday as the Cowgirls come to Norman for Bedlam, part II. OU defeated OSU in a thriller, sealing a 77-75 win in Stillwater on Jan. 8 with a
Madi Williams layup off an in-bounds pass quarterbacked by
Tatum Veitenheimer.
• Oklahoma leads the all-time series 63-42 and holds a 34-13 advantage in Norman. The teams have split the last 10 meetings 5-5 and the Sooners have won the last two.
• Junior guard
Ana Llanusa scored her 1,000
th career point during OU's last home game, a 68-58 win over West Virginia (Feb. 5). Llanusa, in just her second game back after missing six games due to injury, led the way for the Sooners with 19 points and reached the milestone on her 17
th point of the night. Llanusa became the 36
th player in program history to score 1,000 and the 17
th player to achieve the feat in three or fewer seasons.
• With 110 made triples this year,
Taylor Robertson is just five 3-pointers away from tying the OU single-season 3s record of 115 set by Aaryn Ellenburg in 2013 and six away from breaking it. Robertson is 14 away from breaking the Big 12 single-season record of 123, which was set in 2002 by Kansas State's Laurie Koehn. The sophomore is the first player in Big 12 history to hit 100 treys in back-to-back seasons after netting 105 last season.
• The Sooners will celebrate two program milestones on Tuesday night. Head coach
Sherri Coale will be
honored for her 500th win as a head coach after notching that victory on Feb. 2 at Kansas. Llanusa will
be recognized for scoring her 1000th career point, which she netted on Feb. 5 against West Virginia.
GAME 23 RECAP: IOWA STATE 63, OU 59
The Sooners took Iowa State to the wire but fell short on the road 63-59 on Saturday.
Four Sooners scored in double figures and OU out-shot the Cyclones 33.9% to 32.3% in the contest, but Iowa State capitalized on Oklahoma fouls to win the game from the free throw line where it was 14-of-18.
Ana Llanusa, making her first start in seven games, and
Taylor Robertson scored 15 points each to lead OU.
Gabby Gregory chipped in 12 and
Madi Williams had 11. Williams scored nine of her 11 in the fourth quarter as the Sooners took a lead after trailing most of the game.
The Sooners trailed 38-27 at halftime but got hot in the third quarter to cut Iowa State's advantage to five headed into the final period. Williams took over at the start of the fourth quarter, hitting three straight layups. The sophomore scored six straight points (assisted by Gregory, Robertson and Simpson in that order) to give the Sooners the lead at 49-48 with 8:28 left in the game. Iowa State responded with an 8-0 run in the final four minutes to close the game.
PREVIEWING OKLAHOMA STATE
The Cowgirls come to Norman at 13-10 overall and 4-7 against the Big 12. OSU snapped a four-game losing streak Saturday with a 60-57 win over West Virginia in Stillwater.
OSU's Natasha Mack ranks among the top five nationally in four different statistical categories. She is fourth in rebounds per game (12.1); fourth in blocked shots per game (3.45); fourth in defensive rebounds per game (8.6) and tied for third for most double-doubles this season with 15.
Vivian Gray and Mack lead the Cowgirls in scoring to rank third and fourth, respectively, among Big 12 players. Gray accounts for 19.7 points per game and Mack contributes 17.7.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET...
It was Bedlam indeed in Stillwater on Jan. 8 as the Sooners pulled off a 77-75 upset of Oklahoma State in the final seconds of the game. With the game tied at 75 with three seconds on the clock,
Madi Williams hit a layup off an in-bounds lob from
Tatum Veitenheimer to lift the Sooners to victory.
After trailing by nine points headed into the fourth quarter, the Sooners used a 16-point run to close the gap. It was Williams who hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 75, then laid the ball in off the glass to seal the win.
Robertson led all players with 25 points as she went 9-for-14 from the field and 7-for-11 from the beyond the arc. Robertson's 25 points were good for her sixth straight game with 20+.
Ana Llanusa had 20 points to go with four steals. Williams had 18 and
Gabby Gregory scored 10.
Mandy Simpson anchored the Sooners defense that held Cowgirl All-American Vivian Gray to 7-for-26 shooting in the contest. Simpson pulled down 11 rebounds and added three assists and three steals.
