GAME 17 RECAP: TCU 82, OU 63

The Sooners saw their first loss in four games Saturday as the Sooners fell to TCU 82-63 Sunday at Lloyd Noble Center. Four players scored in double figures for the Sooners but TCU out-shot OU 53.3% to 40.7%. TCU's Jayde Woods and Kianna Ray led all players with 18 points as five Horned Frogs scored in double digits. Taylor Robertson led the way for OU with 16 points, her first game in nine contests with fewer than 20.

In a season-high 40 minutes on the court, freshman Gabby Gregory chipped in 15 points and added four rebounds on the night. She also added a steal and an assist. Mandy Simpson and Madi Williams tallied 12 and five rebounds apiece.

PREVIEWING TEXAS TECH

The Lady Raiders come into Wednesday's contest at 12-4 overall and 1-4 against the Big 12. Texas Tech last lost its last three games straight. In its last contest, Texas Tech fell to Kansas 67-50 Saturday on the road.

Tech's Brittany Brewer is averaging a double-double with 15.2 points per game and 10.4 rebounds. Brewer also leads the nation in blocked shots per game with 4.81.

The Sooners lead the all-time series 37-24 and hold a 15-14 advantage in Lubbock. OU is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings with Tech claiming the last two games between the teams.

COALE GOES FOR NO. 500

A win Wednesday would make 500 for head coach Sherri Coale, who is in her 24th season at the helm for the Sooners. Coale is the winningest coach in program history at 499-207 (.648).
Coale has led the Sooners to 19 NCAA Tournament appearances in 20 years, three Final Fours and nine Sweet 16 appearances since 2000.

A four-time Big 12 Coach of the Year, Coale has also coached the Sooners to four Big 12 postseason titles and mentored 13 All-Americans, six Big 12 Players of the Year and seven Big 12 Freshmen of the Year.

14 OU players have been WNBA Draft Picks, six of them first-round selections, following their careers under Coale.

The Healdton, Okla., native was inducted into the Women's College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

Just 72 coaches in Division I women's basketball have earned 500 or more wins in their careers. Just 33 of those are active coaches. 196 in men's and women's Division I basketball, including 60 of those active, have reached the milestone.

BIG 12 ROAD WARRIORS

Prior to Big 12 play, OU had not won a game on the road or a neutral site contest, posting a 0-4 mark away from Lloyd Noble Center during the nonconference slate.
OU is 2-0 on the road in the Big 12 after pulling off a 77-75 thriller at Oklahoma State (Jan. 8) and a 73-49 blowout of then-No. 17 West Virginia to hand the Mountaineers their first loss in Morgantown all year.

Only TCU has a better Big 12 road record than the Sooners at 3-0. Baylor is also 2-0 on the road against the league and Kansas State also has an unblemished record at 1-0.

OFFENSE VS. OFFENSE

Wednesday's game will be a showdown between two of the Big 12's top three offenses. Texas Tech ranks second among league teams with an average 78.75 points per game, while OU is third with 77.35. The Lady Raiders are shooting 44.9% from the field to check in at No.2 in the Big 12 while OU is fourth shooting 43.8%.

Four Red Raiders average points in double figures, led by Brittany Brewer with 15.2 per game. Three Sooners average double digits in scoring with Taylor Robertson leading the charge at 20.8 points per game.

Nationally, the Texas Tech scoring offense (78.8 PPG) ranks 15th, while OU is not far behind at 19th (77.35 PPG).
OU will look to capitalize on its shooting ability from beyond the arc, where the Sooners average a league-high 8.88 treys per game on 39.8% efficiency. Texas Tech ranks seventh among league teams in 3-point field goal percentage (31.0%) and sixth in 3-point field goal percentage defense (29.6%).

BOARDS COME DOWN, STATS TREND UP

Since December, junior forward Mandy Simpson has stepped up as a rebounder. At the beginning of December, the junior averaged 4.0 rebounds per game; at the beginning of January, Simpson had boosted her average to 5.7.

Headed into Wednesday's contest, Simpson is averaging 6.4 rebounds per game this season and has pulled down at least five boards in each of the last five contests, including a career-high 12 against Baylor on Jan. 4 and 11 each at Oklahoma State (Jan. 8) and West Virginia (Jan. 15). The Boise, Idaho, product has also led the Sooners in rebounds in four of the last five games.

Simpson is averaging 9.4 rebounds per game in Big 12 play to tie Iowa State's Ashley Joens for first in the conference.

T-ROB TREY TRACKER

Sophomore Taylor Robertson is the NCAA's active career leader in 3-point field goal percentage, shooting 46.9% (194-for-414), roughly just halfway through her second season of college basketball. She is also the active career leader in treys per game with a 4.13 average; the next closest player, Rachel Childress of UAB, has averaged 3.33 per game. Robertson is the youngest member of both 10-player lists; the nine other players on each are juniors and seniors.

Robertson is the national leader in made 3s with 89 this season. The sophomore is shooting 47.1% (89-for-189) from deep.

The McPherson, Kan., product also leads the country in 3s per game (5.24) this season. She is averaging the most 3s per game of any player in men's or women's Division I basketball; Aaron Nesmith of Vanderbilt is the men's 3s per game leader and is averaging 4.29.

Robertson leads the Big 12 in 3-pointers this season (89), 51 more than the next closest players: TCU's Jaycee Bradley and West Virginia's Kysre Gondrezick are second in the league with 38 each this season.

As a team, OU has made a league-high 151 3-pointers this season; Robertson accounts for more than half of those.

Of Robertson's 353 total points this season, 267 have come from behind the 3-point line. 56 have come from the charity stripe where she is 56-for-64 (87.5%); just 30 of Robertson's points have not been 3s or free throws.

Additionally, Robertson's nine made 3s at Wichita State tie for the third most in a single game in women's Division I basketball this season and are one shy of the men's 2019-20 Division I single game record of 10.

After Sunday's game with TCU, Robertson moved into fifth on OU's single season made 3-pointers record list with 89 on the year. As a freshman in 2018-19, Robertson poured in 105 3-pointers to rank second on that list. Should Robertson continue to average 5.24 treys per game, she is on pace to shatter her own record as well as leader Aaryn Ellenberg's mark of 115 in a season (2012-13).

SHOOTERS SHOOT

OU has proven its prowess from long range this season with the Sooners shooting 38.9% (151-for-388) from beyond the arc to rank second in the Big 12 in that category and rank ninth nationally.

With 151 made treys, the Sooners lead the conference in made 3-pointers by 28; the next closest team is Iowa State with 123.

OU is 16th nationally in made treys and 15th nationally in 3s per game with 8.9.

Sharpshooter Taylor Robertson accounts for 89 of OU's 151 3-pointers this season – 58.9% of the Sooners' buckets from deep have come from Robertson.
