Late Comeback Leads to Draw in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TEXAS – A late goal by senior Kaylee Dao ensured the Oklahoma soccer team at least one point in the Big 12 standings as the Sooners (5-4-3, 0-1-1) drew No. 25 Texas Tech 1-1, Sunday in Lubbock.
With just six minutes left in regulation and Tech (9-1-1, 1-0-1) leading 1-0, Dao came through with her eighth goal of the season. Dao fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box, blasting the ball past the diving Texas Tech keeper.
Dao's goal was the first Oklahoma goal allowed by the Red Raiders since the 2014 season when the Sooners won 1-0 in overtime.
"Texas Tech always seems be one of the great challenges of the season," head coach Matt Potter said. "Always competitive and a chess match throughout, only heightened by the wind. I have great respect and admiration for the staff and teams Tech produces. Nonetheless, I'm proud of the endeavor and tenacity of the group as they once again showed great character. I am happy to be headed home having picked up a point on the road, which is very difficult to do in the Big 12, after the disappointment of Thursday."
OU played its sixth overtime game of the season, pushing their record in such games to 3-1-2 and 2-0-1 in OT games played on Sundays.
Tech took the lead in the second half off a goal from Kirsten Davis in the 57th minute. Davis took a shot from the top corner of the 18-yard box, slotting the ball inside the post.
The Red Raiders maintained a 15-6 shot advantage over the Sooners, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Oklahoma keeper Nikki Panas was clutch in goal as she came up with six saves on the night.
The Sooners return to John Crain Field for three-straight Big 12 matchups. The three-game home stretch begins on Thursday as the Sooners host Kansas State at 7 p.m. CT.
