Sooners Take Aggies to Five

September 17, 2019 | Volleyball

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In a match that came down to the wire, the Oklahoma volleyball team faltered for the first time in seven matches as it fell to Texas A&M 3-2 Tuesday night inside Reed Arena.

The Aggies (8-1, 0-0 SEC) topped the Sooners (7-3, 0-0 Big 12) 17-25, 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12, as the OU faced its first five-set loss this season.

Texas A&M out-killed OU 65-57 in the contest, but the Sooners held A&M to a .207 hitting percentage while swinging .225. Defensively, the teams tied in blocks with 14 apiece while the Aggies narrowly edged OU in digs 69-64.

Ashlynn Dunbar led the way for the Sooners with her first double-double at OU, putting down 19 kills while adding 12 digs. Dunbar hit a .259 clip, good for her best hitting percentage this season. Paige Anderson recorded her fifth straight double-digit kills performance as she put away 11 and swung .308.

Brianna Kadiku had 10 kills on a .500 clip to mark the fourth time this season that the senior has hit above .400. Kadiku also led the match in total blocks with seven to her name, accounting for half of OU's blocks on the night.

Keyton Kinley again paced the Sooners' defense with 16 blocks. Paige Anderson was not far behind as she tallied 14.

OU jumped out to a 15-8 lead to start the first set before Texas A&M closed the gap. OU ended the set on a three-point run with kills from Anderson, Dunbar and Kadiku.

Texas A&M fired back to win the second set 25-20. The teams traded points in set three, tying as late in the frame as 22-22 as Sanders hammered home a kill, but it was the Aggies that took the set 25-22. The Sooners won set four 25-20 to force a fifth set, but Texas A&M jumped out to an early lead and put away the set and the match 15-12.
