OU had a goal-scoring chance in the 30
th minute as senior
Ivanna Rivas drew a foul inside the box to set up a penalty kick. Senior
Kaylee Dao lined up to take the kick but was denied as the Creighton keeper made a diving save.
"First and foremost, we should take nothing from Creighton as they executed their game plan," head coach
Matt Potter said. "We were disappointed to go down (two) goals and ultimately gave ourselves too big of a hole to get out of. Nonetheless, we created numerous chances that you have to finish, especially on the road. We got the goal to put us back in with a chance but lacked the quality and tenacity to close the deal."
The Sooners (4-1-3) outshot the Blue Jays (5-1-0) by a mark of 17-9, with Creighton holding an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Nine Sooners tallied at least one shot, led by four from O'Donnell. Dao added three, while sophomore
Megan Reilly, junior
Yuuka Kurosaki and sophomore
Jazzy Richards recorded two apiece. OU's offense came to life in the second half as the Sooners recorded 12 shots in the final 45 minutes but had just one on goal.
McClay corralled five saves in the match but suffered her first loss of the year, falling to 3-1-1 in goal, while Creighton redshirt sophomore Katie Sullivan improved to 5-1-0 while snagging four saves Sunday afternoon.
"We learn, go back to practice and ready ourselves for the next challenge," Potter said. "It's been a tough road swing with plenty to be positive about and we look forward to playing in front of our home fans."
The Sooners will wrap up the non-conference slate with a pair of home games against SMU and Houston. OU will face SMU on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. before taking on Houston on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m.
