Five OU Wrestlers Head to NCAA Championship

NORMAN  – Five Sooners will represent the Oklahoma wrestling team at the 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships March 21-23 inside PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. Christian Moody (125), Dom Demas (141), Davion Jeffries (149), Justin Thomas (157) and Jake Woodley (197) will compete for a national title in their respective weight classes beginning Thursday.

Moody, Demas, Jeffries and Woodley all earned automatic bids by virtue of the their finishes at the 2019 Big 12 Championships, including a title for Demas at 141. Thomas was an at-large selection. Additionally, redshirt freshman Anthony Mantanona (174) was selected as an alternate for the national tournament.

2019 marks the fourth NCAA appearance for Jeffries and the third for Moody. Demas, Woodley and Thomas will all make their debut on the national stage.

The 2019 NCAA Championships will run as double-elimination, and the top eight finishers in each weight class will earn All-American honors. Wrestlers will also score team points for every win.

ESPN's unprecedented coverage of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships returns this month, with the annual event's three prime-time sessions airing on ESPN, its early sessions on ESPNU and every one of the 640 matches available on ESPN3 via the ESPN App.

ESPN prime-time coverage begins with the second round on March 21, at 6 p.m. CT, and continues with the semifinals on March 22, at 7 p.m. On the same two days, ESPNU will air the first round at noon and the quarterfinals at 10 a.m. As with all sessions, ESPN3 will offer individual feeds of each mat, including all eight mats for the first three sessions and all six mats for the semifinals.
