• The season opener serves as the official debut for OU's highly-anticipated incoming class. OU's 2019 recruiting class was listed in the top 20 nationally by Rivals (No. 14) and ESPN (No. 20). Both sites list Oklahoma's incoming class as the second best in the Big 12. The group of newcomers is comprised of guards De'Vion Harmon (Denton, Texas) and Alondes Williams (River Grove, Ill.), forwards Anyang Garang (Adelaide, Australia), Jalen Hill (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Victor Iwuakor (Sulphur Springs, Texas) and centers Rick Issanza (Kinshasha, Congo) and Corbin Merritt (Tallahassee, Fla.).
• Oklahoma is 8-0 in season openers under head coach Lon Kruger. Additonally, the Sooners have won 16 consecutive season openers dating back to the 2003-04 season.
• OU is 40-6 all-time against current members of Conference USA and is 6-1 against C-USA teams during the Kruger era.
• Coaching across the court from Lon Kruger is his former longtime assistant Steve Henson. Beginning his fourth year at the helm of the UTSA program, Henson spent nearly three decades of playing and working for Kruger. Henson was a four-year starting point guard for Kruger at Kansas State from 1986-90, earning All-Big Eight Conference honors as a junior and senior. Following his professional career, Henson got his start in coaching as an assistant for Kruger at Illinois in 1999 and went on to also be a member of Kruger's staff with the Atlanta Hawks, UNLV and Oklahoma for a combined 15 seasons. When Henson was hired by UTSA, the Roadrunners were coming off a last-place 5-27 season. Just two years later, Henson coached UTSA to a 20-15 record and fifth-place finish in Conference USA, earning himself the 2018 C-USA Coach of the Year honors. The Roadrunners tied for second place in C-USA last season and are predicted to finish second in the league's preseason poll.
• Joining Henson on the UTSA staff is assistant coach Scott Thompson, who served as OU's video coordinator from 2011-16.
• Junior Brady Manek led all scorers with 23 points and eight rebounds. His performance was especially meaningful coming against his older brother Kellen, who produced 12 points and eight boards for the Savage Storm.

Manek is one of only two Big 12 players (Baylor's Tristan Clark) named to the watch list.

• Saturday will be the ninth meeting between the Sooners and Gophers and just the third since 1960. The all-time series is tied 4-4 with OU winning the most recent meeting, a 67-54 victory in Anchorage, Alaska in 2004.
• OU assistant Jim Molinari spent three seasons on staff at Minnesota (2004-07). Following a coaching change, he served as the interim head coach over the final 24 games of the 2006-07 season.
• The Sooners are 3-5 against Big Ten teams during the Kruger era.
