Fields, McGinnis Earn Academic All-District Honors

NORMAN — University of Oklahoma redshirt senior Connor McGinnis and sophomore Pat Fields have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Football Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.

McGinnis graduated in May with his bachelor's degree in finance and is pursuing his master's degree in the same field. The Oklahoma City native has served as OU's holder for all four of his seasons, helping Sooners placekickers convert 57 of 70 career field goals (.814) and 296-299 career extra-point attempts (.990). In three of those seasons, he was the holder for the record-setting Austin Seibert, who broke FBS career standards for kick scoring and PATs made and attempted, and is OU's and the Big 12's all-time leading scorer. McGinnis was named to the Academic All-District team in 2018, is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree and was a semifinalist this season for the William V. Campbell Trophy.

Fields has started all nine games this season after playing in six contests as a true freshman last year. The safety from Tulsa, Okla., ranks third on the team this season with 42 tackles (28 solo, 14 assisted) and has accounted for 2.0 sacks and four pass breakups. He recorded a career-high eight tackles against Alabama in last season's College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Orange Bowl and tied the mark last weekend against Iowa State. He was named to the 2018 Big 12 All-Academic Rookie Team.

McGinnis and Fields are eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be announced Dec. 9-12. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes football honorees for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

No. 10/10/8 Oklahoma (8-1, 5-1 Big 12) travels to face No. 13/12/10 Baylor (9-0, 6-0 Big 12) on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Waco, Texas. The game will be televised on ABC.
