Sooners Shut Out Cyclones, 1-0

NORMAN – The Oklahoma soccer team picked up its third conference win, shutting out Iowa State, 1-0, Thursday night in Ames, Iowa.
The Sooners improved to 8-5-3 on the season and 3-2-1 in Big 12 play, while the Cyclones fell to 3-11-0, 0-5-0.
"Tough place to win and this will be one of the great collective team wins we will look back on at the end of the season with a smile," head coach Matt Potter said. "We showed the discipline and character to stay the course when it got tough and to imprint ourselves when we had the opportunity. Shutouts are huge this time of year and shows the group continues to mature with each game. We will rest up and then prepare for another challenge in West Virginia."
Redshirt senior Kaylee Dao notched her fifth game-winning goal of the season as her score in the first half was all the Sooners needed for the victory.
In the 29th minute, Dao scored her 13th goal of the season on a diving header. Sophomore Jazzy Richards played in a beautiful cross, finding Dao at the top of the six-yard box.
Dao is now just two goals away from matching the single-season program record of 15 goals set by Whitney Palmer in 2009. With 29 career goals, the Tulsa, Okla., native sits in sole-possession of third place in program history.
Junior goalkeeper Nikki Panas posted her second clean sheet of the year as the Sooners earned their fourth shutout of the season. Panas improved to 4-2-1 in goal behind a pair of saves on the night.
The Sooners outshot the Cyclones, 11-6, on the night led by Dao's four shots. Senior Kristina O'Donnell and sophomores Jazzy Richards and Lauren Tovy each recorded a pair of shots.
OU will be back in action on Sunday, taking on West Virginia at 2 p.m. CT in Morgantown. The match will air on ESPNU.
